Once again Wizards of the Coast and the RPGA are running a number of D&D and other tabletop gaming events at PAX Prime.

A series of three linked adventures forms a complete mini-campaign suitable for 1st-level characters! If you’re a fan of the Living City, you’ll want to give the mini-campaign a try, and if you’ve never played Living Forgotten Realms before, this is a great place to start! 4 hours per adventure.

D&D Gamma World: Pax Extraterrestria
Catch a 4-hour preview session of the upcoming D&D Gamma World tabletop RPG—a game where the men are radioactive yetis, the women are telekinetic androids, and you never bring a floppy feet mutation to a fusion rifle fight. Come to try out the highly random character creation and defend Gamma Terra from the alien entity that seeks to destroy all the world's remaining technology. Play with the first finished copies of the game a month before its release, and make your own characters! 4 hours.

D&D Dark Sun Arenas: Glory and Blood

This DM Challenge is a special one-time event running only at PAX Prime! DMs create a 9th-level adventure harkening back to classic dungeons of yesteryear, bringing their craftiest tricks and traps to bear! Can you conquer their fiendish forces and claim victory? Rate your play experience to determine the best adventure of the evening! 9th-level characters are provided. 4-6 hours.

Three-Dragon Ante Tournament
Come play in a tournament with this fantastic D&D-themed card game! Players will participate in an opening round, and the table winners will form a final round. Decks will be mixed and matched between the original game and the Emperor’s Gambit game. Winners receive prizes! 4 hours.

Castle Ravenloft Board Game Challenge
Explore the secrets of the new Castle Ravenloft board game as you play through one of the many adventures included. The mists of Ravenloft await, and perhaps, with a little luck and some teamwork, you can emerge from Strahd’s castle with your wits and your lives! 2 hours per game.

I don't mean to start the thread off on a negative note, but I had a similar experience last year at Prime '09, and it was one of the very few negative things that I've ever run into at PAX. The staff was unhelpful to say the least, surly is a more apt description. And I was registered, just late.
On the flip side, I had an excellent experience at PAX East in March. We played whatever the speed run event with pregenerated characters was twice, and had a lot of fun. No hassle, no signing up way in advance, just get in line and play. My wife and I combined our tokens to win a backpack! I hope to find my way to one of these events again at Prime '10.
I'm very interested in the Three-Dragon Ante Tournament.
However, I noticed it is one of the games you cannot pre-register for, at the time of this post.
Will there be a pre-registeration for it later, or does one just show up to participate in the opening round?
If it happens to be the latter, would it be recommended to show up somewhat early (10-30 minutes) before the start time?

Would anybody still suggest this event to me? I really wanna get into D&D but again I know next to nothing, especially when it comes to the rules an such.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I admit we were flooded with interest but literally filled to the brim with sign-ups by mid-day Friday. We had two issues:
1) we had limited space and GMs, and
2) we had mistakenly filled half the schedule with events that walk-up players could not play.
As a result, I myself said the following many many times. "PAX sold out, we sold out." After saying this a couple hundred times, I will admit that it may have come across harshly.
This year we have more space and every event is playable by anyone who walks up.

We have more space, more GMs, and more events that walk-up folks can play this year. So it will be much easier to get into events throughout the weekend.
Two events, in particular, the D&D Convention Delve (1 hour long, on-demand), Dark Sun Arenas (2 hours, running at 11am, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9pm) are running constantly from 11am-11pm. (Last Delve starts at 10pm, Last Arena at 9pm). And if you want a D&D-like boardgame experience, the new Ravenloft Boardgame will be running repeatedly as well.
The Convention Delve is a 1 hour event with all materials provided. Just walk-up and play.
The Dark Sun Arena allows you to create a first level PC on-site. (We will have PC creation stations and folks to help you out on-site).
The Ravenloft boardgame has everything ready to play for a table of players.

Castle Ravenloft Board Game Challenge
Requirements: Bring yourself.
Creating PCs -- We will have PC Creation stations on-site. Creating a PC for Living Forgotten Realms or Dark Sun Arenas can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes (figure about 20 minutes on average), depending on your experience with D&D4E.
Dice -- If at all possible, you should have a set of D20, D12, D8, D6, and D4 dice for anything but Learn to Play D&D and the D&D Convention Delve: Lair of the Dread Witch. An extra D6 and D8 are good to have.
Do I need a D&D 4E Player's Handbook? -- It is highly recommended to have a Player's Handbook for D&D Living Forgotten Realms: Return to Ravens Bluff, D&D Classics: Curse of the Gray Hag, or to be player in the D&D DM Challenge: Dungeon of Horrors.

I highly recommend pre-registering for Gamma World tables. I have only so many judges to run those events, and only so many sets of the rules.
I'm not sure how Dark Sun Arenas will be. We are running it at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm Fri & Sat, and 11am, 1pm on Sunday. Only some of those slots are available for on-line sign-up.

Since I'd still like to do it, I have two questions:
If we're signing on to be a DM (not as a player) will there be potentially any problems doing so on Friday? I don't want to make a dungeon and then not be able to run it.
Does anyone want to give me a ride to Kirkland after it's over? Buses only run so long :P (I guess I should post in "looking for a ride" thread).
Also, bump from page 3.
For the DM Challenge, we'll try to seat each DM with at least 4 players, so that all DMs get to run their event. Because of the crazy nature of walk-ins and such, it is possible we could end up with an overage of DMs or players, but we will do what we can to get each player seated and each DM's game fired off.
As a DM, we can't guarantee with absolute certainty that you'll be able to run your dungeon, but if you do register to participate and have done the work, you'll at least get a participation prize just like the other DMs.

This'll be my first PAX and perhaps what was looking forward to the most was playing some D&D for the first (or second) time.
