MMOs for poor folks that only kinda suck (Everyone is playing DDO)

I've had too much free time lately, so a couple friends and I have taken to playing DDO, which is free to play and not entirely terrible. (We're on Canith if you wanna join us)

There's some other free-to-play MMOs out there, like... uh...

shit, I dunno, what are some decent games to play with your friends for free?

folks on DDO:

Rankenphile: Guitarsolo, rogue; Bubblegoose, cleric
OmegaTofuNinja: Champain, Barbarian
MKR: Hamhammer, Paladin
Uriel : Dumbert, Paladin
Yukira: Barnorm, Barbarian
Melding: Toslash, Warforged Fighter
Nikolai: McBeardsly, Necromancer
Burning Organ: Organus, Sorceror; Khard, Cleric
Scarlet Blvd: Taggert, rogue
HellaJeff: Charriere, Cleric
Belruel: Belru, Cleric
Swill: Swilla, Ranger
Raneados : Raneados , Ranger, Veccus, cleric
PiptheFair: Bandersccotc, halfling rogue

NOTE: We've got a guild now, called Can't Ever Stop Pooping. This list is out of date because I don't want to have to keep it up to date, if you want to play with us, ask in the thread for a guild invite or catch someone in-game to get one.

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised by how much better DDO got. It was awful in the beginning, but it has improved substantially. Its still shameless how much they push pay content, but the party dynamic works well and there's a lot to do for free

It's an awesome list of free MMO's compiled by Aldo. The amount of shitty games he went through, the brain damage he must've suffer.... But he found few decent games in pile of shit known as F2P MMO.

I have been playing Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Of course if you want a legit Mac copy you need to shell out $35 (unless you're like me and bought it when it first came out)

I really want the Alien Crossfire expansion, but that's another $35 for the Mac version

And no I don't have an Intel based Mac, thats the reason why I can run the Mac edition (Intel Macs have to use the Windows version because there was no official OS X port, only some shitty third party ports that are very hard to find and don't work too well anyways)

As awesome as GW2 looks, they're making a lot of promises, and frankly I'll believe it when I see it.

And I've long had a rule that I don't play MMOs for the first three months after launch. Way too buggy, way too many folks checking it out that'll never return. Wait for the servers to stabilize, the bugs to get patched, the playerbase and economy to stabilize a little. These are games with a five to ten year life cycle, it ain't a race.

Yeah, the amount of promises is a scary kinda thing, but there really hasn't been anything too unrealistic.
All the minigame stuff and probably a lot of the world events won't be around for the first few months of launch, I'm guessing.

Still, nothing is gonna keep me from pre-ordering the most expensive collector's edition as soon as I can.
