See, I was professional with Mina cause we worked together and it wasn't until I accidentally hit "suave" and she was all *giggle giggle* Michael, stop that I realized what I was supposed to be doing with her.
Mike has his good buddy Steven pay Marburg a little "visit".
Also, I went full pro on my second run. Worked with G22 to mutual benefit, kept fatalities of non-targets to a minimum, and didn't kill anyone at the Gelato shop.
Marburg started with a speech about how impressed he was, figured "Oh, maybe if you impress him enough he won't be a dick. Choices and consequences!"
Got to 10, more or less for keeping up the whole "I am a professional superspy" thing. And then I did the mansion visit.
"I want to offer you a job."
Okay, cool.
"No, sorry. Too loyal to the USA. Thanks for the offer, but again, got this whole love-of-country, not-a-sellout thing going on. Nice talking, though."
And then he does the same damn "beat him within an inch of his life" crap!
What. An. Asshole.
I belive you could accept in a previous version of the game. At least it was in one of the prerelease vids
In the previous iteration of the game, who you ended up with as your handler after Saudi was a little more up in the air. I really wish I had been able to play that version.
Mina being your handler like 80-90% of the game shows that.
Can you imagine being able to tackle Taipei as a Thorton/Heck/Darcy trio?
SCENE: Taipei Hotel Room. Thorton stretches patiently in his stealth armor suit while engaging in a video conference call on his hotel room's big screen.
THORTON: That brings us to you, Scarlet. I have an important job for you.
SCARLET: What can I do for you, Mike?
DARCY: Show us your tits!
HECK: Ooh, that reminds me. Mikey, did I ever tell you about the time I got a lap dance from an IRA intelligence agent while we were hunting for evidence of extra terrestrials at Area 51 in Nevada? My cover was as a Texas oil tycoon, hers was as a down on her luck stripper trying to pay her way through vet school. Let me tell you, we spent a lot of time under those covers.
DARCY: Show us your tits!
SCARLET: Jesus Christ....
HECK: Hey Scarlet, I don't suppose you're a natural redhead!
DARCY: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHOW US THOSE GODDAMNED TITTIES!
THORTON: Hey, guys...
SCARLET: GO FUCK YOURSELF, DARCY!
THORTON: GUYS! Cut it out.
SCARLET: Thanks, Mike.
THORTON: Don't mention it.
SCARLET: Really, I appreciate it.
THORTON: Okay. But seriously, we all need to see your tits right now.

Mina seems to much prefer professional when you're just getting to know her.
I'll try suaving at the ladies a bit, you guys! Geez
I felt like the villain was really weak. His plot was clever, but he himself just seemed like a smarmy little shit who wasn't worth the plots time. Now if Albatross had been the big bad, that'd been something.

I feel like those are almost always the most gratifying types of assholes to kill. In games... Jesus, if someone read that shit out of context I'd look like Heck...

Also BIG Spoiler
Blew my mind when I found myself fighting Layland (sp?) on my second play through. The first time I beat the whole game, I fought Westridge; I thought that was just how it went down. I had no idea what I was in for the second time around.
All these ending spoilers make me so glad I actually spent the time to Platinum this game. There's so much cool shit in this game!
Being able to kill Marburg was an absolute BITCH tho.
Figuring out how to kill Scarlet was way more difficult for me. That was the last hurdle to getting the Kill 'Em All achievement and it required a surprising amount of planning. Like her too much and Mike won't shoot her, piss her off too much and she won't spill the beans (and Omen's dead, so he can't give her away either).

Thousands of dollars on his fucking hair
I felt he was satisfying enough for the fact that if you play your cards right over the course of the game, you can headslam him in a really satisfying fashion at the end of his interview, instead of just punching him.

I had max rep with her (but didn't sleep with her) and when Mike found her in the interrogation room he had no problem pumping her full of lead).

Made the whole thing worthwhile.
Even my buddy, who also 1000 pointed/platinum'd this game hasn't seen the headslam.
There are actually 2 different headslams possible. One that you can get pretty easily, then another one that requires you to do more set up and pass on the first one. But it's sooooo worth it.

Got it on my first playthrough, never realised at the time there were conditions to be met to get it. Do you know what they are?

I used to know, but it's been a while. You basically have to get him to a point where he kind of likes you but is still going to kill you, then you bait him in and headslam. So you have to build some Leland cred but not so much that he tries to make you a partner. And you have to do this over the course of the three major mission hubs, since his conversations are interspersed.

Honestly the whole point of Alpha Protocol was that Leland's plan was the real threat, not Leland himself. He drafted it thinking it would start another Cold War and he could have Halbech become massively wealthy by selling to all sides of the conflict. What he didn't realize, and why Mina contacts you is that it could (and probably would) kick off World War 3 which could lead to devastation on an unimaginable scale. That's why killing him, while ultimately satisfying, isn't necessary after you infiltrate Alpha Protocol and stop the plan. Of course, if you're anything like me, you fucking killed the guy. I stopped Mina from shooting Scarlett because you know what, she was just a professional on a job, and without her help I wouldn't have gotten most of the info I needed in Taipei. Besides, my Micheal definitely had a weakness for redheads.

It's hard to kill Scarlet? I think we had max relationship points, but at the endgame she still shot me so I had her shot to death when she was going to finish the job. Or I had her walk away when she realized she wasn't going to get paid. I forget. I'm going to check my trophies now to see if I can remember.

Can I cheat myself more character points somehow? I really want to play through as a recruit, but the early game is incredibly aggravating with no points.
Yep, pick the rookie options with the trainers and you get a perk that gives ten points for skills. Also, you get a rifle scope for free in the firearms training area.

Basically for this and subsequent playthroughs I want to trivialize the early game. Lategame there's enough points to trivialize combat already.
I've played it through twice. I feel like that's enough of the combat, but nowhere NEAR enough of the conversation battles.

One round of rookie is unpleasant. But after that, you get veteran, and can basically ignore the shitty, shitty combat engine in favor of just turning invulnerable and neck punching.
That's why I never played rookie. Well I did, but I also compounded it with playing differently than my first time around, so I was a rookie who was shooting people with shotguns and stomping on them. I didn't get very far.
edit: I just want to be able to jump straight to veteran and get super in every category. Brilliance-ing my way through levels.

Best at everything or worst. No compromise, even in the face of Armageddon.
There were parts of the combat I enjoyed. A couple of the boss fights in particular were memorable, because they were just hard enough to require a plan without being so hard they got frustrating.
