Special Features: 238 minutes of commentary by craft services on food they served
Do you dudes ever watch the special features? I have a pile of dvds and I just can't see myself spending time on the extras when I could be watching a new movie entirely.
Deleted scenes are the worst offenders. In every case I bothered, it was quite clear they were left out for a reason and just plain suck.
I don't think I've ever watched a movie with commentary. I agree with the directors who refuse to do one because what a detraction from the film m i rite.
Are there any really notable extras out there? I like the bonus Chaplin shorts included on some of his dvds in that nice collection they put out not too long ago.
DVD extras are a nice thing to have on when doing other work, especially commentaries. It's almost like listen to radio while you work. Only not. At all.
gag reels can be okay. it's really sad though when it's a comedy and the gag reel is funnier than the scripted jokes

Ronin has an excellent commentary, as it was John Frankenheimer's last film before his death. Very enlightening.
Kevin Smith's are always good too, but more for hilarity. The Dogma group commentary went so off-track that him and Mosier had to do a second 'technical' commentary.
As for features, Criterion's are always excellent. Chasing Amy is full of good stuff. They never fail to keep special features interesting.

I love special features.
God if my dick was small enough to fuck the discs in the LotR: Extended Editions, I would.

Ah, yeah, see, I stopped watching special features after the LOTR EE's! It was all very interesting but kind of took some of the enjoyment out of the movies themselves.
wow i'm surprised. I guess it makes sense when you dont have a lot of dvds moving through the place, to slap one in and play it passively while you're doing something else.
Family guy always had fantastic commentary, and even though I don't find the show particularly funny anymore, it does make me realise how much thought and creativity goes behind every episode.
Plus Seth McFarlane does full commentary for every single episode on DVD. That's pretty dedicated.
