Basket for a mountain bike

So my roommate's birthday is coming up, and she has frequently talked about wanting to get a basket for her mountain bike, so that she can put stuff in it when she rides. (which she does all the time) She wants the ability to pick up small amounts of groceries. Thing is, she ALSO wants a basket which is relatively easily detachable so that when she wants to do serious riding, she can make the switch quickly and easily. However, the ability to detach easily is not wholly critical - she'd rather have the basket even if it was annoying to take off and put back on.
She has a Specialized Hardrock Mountain Bike Cr Mo 4130 23". I'll try to post a picture of it when I'm off work.
Does anyone have recommendations of where I can find a cheap bike basket for her? Is there more info I need to gather? I've never installed a basket and I haven't the faintest idea of where to start. Also, are there rear baskets I can get?

They are easily found in any store that would sell bikes. Since you're not looking to spend a lot of cash, just pick up something that looks decently sturdy and features a quick release, rather than some sort of tie on/bolt on garbage.
