The National Park Service said Thursday that it has approved the permit for the Aug. 28 Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin rally at the Lincoln Memorial.

Park Service spokesman Bill Line said the permit indicates that organizers expect 300,000 people to attend. Line said it is a "fixed rally" without a march. The rally will go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The park service is processing a permit request for a counter demonstration and rally by the Rev. Al Sharpton on the same day along Independence Avenue, south of the memorial. Line said the Sharpton rally organizers list 3,000 expected attendees on their permit request.

I couldn't find a more recent article on it that isn't spun one way or the other, so I'm going with this. D:

So who's going for the spectacle? Who's watching this on TV? Have you planned your drinking game yet?

It's a safe bet that all the cable networks will be covering the whole thing with the usual commentary, so rather than list times and stuff, choose your preferred network. I'll catch it on cspan if they show it. If not, I'll be switching between MSNBC and CNN.

If he doesn't keep the spectacle going, one of the other talking heads on AM radio will grab his $20 million a year contract.

I'll watch a highlights reel of the rally on Sunday.

It's a dream where white and blacks, latino and asian, people of every race, Christian, Buddhist, Muslum and every other religion come together tomorrow and kick the ever loving shit out of these people.

You think too narrowly. They only need to show up with protest signs, and be peaceful. Violence only serves the people they would be attacking.

I know you're kidding, but that's a pretty bullshit dream. Peaceful protests/rallies are the right of every American, no matter how much you might disagree with their opinion.

And I think I can probably speak for most DC-area PA posters when I say we'll all be avoiding the area tomorrow like the plague. That's sort of the regular response from DC people when it comes to big protests. They're uniformly a pain in the ass. But they're part of the deal of living here.

Pretty much. Though I get the feeling that really any form of attention serves their purpose and makes them feel justified in their beliefs, driving them further down the rabbit hole.

Heard about this on the Daily Show.

Glenn Beck just wants to retake the civil rights movement. Because really they did it first.

Also, he obviously doesn't think he's MLK. So he's going to give his speech from two steps lower. Which is the respectful thing to do.

Indeed. Fuck rallies and fuck protests. Fuck the traffic that they cause, fuck the stupid hippies that are often paid to attend them, fuck the fact that it takes longer for my delivery to get here, fuck the fact that you assholes screw up the entire subway system, and fuck getting asked for directions every 30 feet.

Seeing that many old dumb people in one area complaining about stupid shit with stupid signs...

Maybe destroying Social Security isn't a bad thing.

Nah, I kid. Glenn Beck is an idiot, but there's no law against being an idiot and staging a protest. If there's anything really unpleasant about this, its his relationship to the non-profit and how they've let donations go towards expenses for Beck (unless they've very recently revised their contract). So boo on them, at least you expect Beck to be a dishonest dipshit.

It's in poor taste and obviously he's hoping people paying their respects to MLK will wander in to see why some lunatic white guy is yelling about civil rights.

This will change the country though. We'll get to see how many people believe Glenn Beck is sane and can declare them legally incompetent.

This guy's tips for tea partiers visiting DC is kind of amusing, if a little off. Silver Diner is a good place to eat? Maybe at 2 in the morning when you're drunk and are making one last effort to pick up a random drunk chick.

And, no matter what you do, don't discuss African politics with DC cab-drivers (words to live by, of course)

Burgers and cupcakes are big in DC these days.... why don't you give people the locations of the best places- Georgetown cupcake, hello cupcake, buzz, baked and wired, red velvet. Rays Hellburger, Good Stuff Eaters, Burger Joint. That way people will get some actual DC flavor during their visit.

Beck is also kind of the antithesis - he himself doesn't say racist things, but he is amazing at creating racism by blowing on the cinders of it with shit like "THE PRESIDENT HATES THE WHITE MAN!". He'd be howard stern if he wasn't taken seriously.

Meh. I've never seen any negative behavior at protests in DC. And this protest draws from the well-behaved Midwestern and Southern white people demographic. It won't be threatening or terribly exciting, as these things go.
