If one were to purchase Guild Wars...
Posts
rationally-speaking, it's probably better to stick with guild-of-the-week-winning KCHS, but i dunno, maybe it's time for something new
What would the cons be?
Lets make a LIST! It'll be great.
Pro
I don't know
Con
Lack of recognition
Have to re-earn everything

Good start to the day. Pity it's going to be the worst one of your life. The light is now on.
Anyway... there's a chance I'll be needing a new guild soon, and it's good to know that you guys are still together. If you care about my opinion :P , I'd stick with the name: it's funny, as Harsh said it's 500k you'd be tossing, there are still people, myself included, who remember the name winning halls forever ago... and it's a gooood name :P
IGN: Noose Maker, Sir Yellalot, Noose Warrior <---if you wanted to know
However, I also just discovered that because my editions are Japanese, I supposedly can't change regions.
Is it a big problem to play on the international region mostly? Or should I kick up a stink with support and try to get them to change the region. The English language support site says you can change regions, but the Japanese support people say not
American and European players can change regions up to 5 times. I also know people which passed this threshold but got an extra region change after contacting support so it is surely possible. You may need to talk to non-Japanese support though.
Playing in international districts is perfectly ok, problem is they are not well populated (the exceptions being pvp zones and the biggest cities) so you will have problems forming parties unless you have a regular group.
I pretty much exclusively play from international regions. KCHS had a very large split between American and Euro guys so it was all good.
I really don't think it's a case of restarting a guild, but getting absorbed into someone elses and trying to carve out your own little corner. Restarting doesn't really change anything.
I really think you're putting too high a praise on your guild tag. I'd be very surprised if more than a handful of people would remember it. And I think hanging on to such a fleeting past glory (abused the game slightly, won halls for a month) is a bit tired.
I'd be up for some PA crew playing. I've been soloing for about 5-6 hours now. However, I do not know in-game terms, or newfangled MMO lingo. I've just been farting around.
Anyone want to roll a brand new Prophecies character and run around in pre-searing, maybe some post-searing?
(And before anyone jumps on me about how much better things I could be doing in a foreign country: I'm already doing them.)
I appreciate the spoiler, actually, since I am brand-spankin new. Name: Seismic Trailer. Yeah, bad inside joke and all that. I might be on ~9-10EST (I'm in PST, actually) tonight, but most of Wednesday nights I have free.
I just got past pre-searing. I didn't see that coming (I knew I was in the "bunnythumper" part of the game, but didn't know how much map would open up afterwards).
If anyone cares to join me, PM "Hogar The Hamfisted".
Yeah, that would be best. I was thinking of just leaving and joining a new guild but I'd rather stick with you guys if we can find some solution to our current situation.
IGN = Sister Nocturn, Hotta Kensai (though Nocturn is my main right now and I'm in the Highlands with her)
I love the KCHS name, regardless if people recognize it. I love telling people that my guild is named the Kansas City Hotsteppers. However, if we need to merge with another guild to keep afloat, so be it.
We were at an all time high with membership when Factions was released. That influx never happened with Nightfall, despite it being infinitely more awesome. And even though we got a ton of people, a few old timers left (either because they wanted a guild that could actually field their awesome builds, or they just loved Elite Missions more than us).
I think there may have also been some bitterness for new players towards the oldies over alliance chat as well, when we actually had allies using it constantly. Didn't you need to be an officer to use it at that time? I think that was the issue since those guilds were small enough to have everyone talking on it.
Anyway, the point is that we've always had a hell of a time pulling together enough to GvG because we're casual and people can PvE, PvP, or just go idle for months on end. No amount of players changed that. People were dropping out even at an all time high. Starting a new guild just going with no focus other than "Let's be PA people playing Guild Wars" will end you up like Obsidian Spur. Who? Exactly. You'll just be burning cash. The options, as I see it (and I'm too tired to look up the BBCode for lists):
1) Shovel plat into the furnace and go nuts trying to build the Tower of Babel, so long as it isn't my plat.
2) Purge KCHS of the dead weight and hope history won't repeat itself (at least not too soon).
3) Reform KCHS (or the plat shovelling thing) with either a PvE or PvP focus in mind. I would say that a PvE focus would be a terrible idea just from the fact that there's no joint PvE section, thus stunting the flow of membership as players are divided.
4) Find a guild that's willing to absorb any PA members, or join the newly thinned KCHS into a very active alliance (with both PvE and PvP guilds if you can). You would need guild-wide alliance chat access though to keep everything moving. The downside here is that your pool of members might not be much better than the unwashed peasants in Local chat.
That's my take anyway. Just remember that if you do PvP, you need to allow new members to go nuts with whatever builds they have even if they're so bad that they should never see the inside of an arena. Build that balthazar faction and buy the elites necessary to run staple builds like boon/prot monks, that new "You're all alone!" warrior or whatever, pin-down or spike rangers, that sort of thing. You'd need some of our experts that haven't burnt out or left to fill you in better than I.
Hell, my main is a smiting/healing/death Monk/Necro.
Maybe after I play though the main stories a bit, I'll start going vs, but PvP's never been my thing.
I like the idea of joining an active alliance. If it gives more people to play with, then great. I can't speak for how alliance chat works, having never experienced it.
The other problem, which we will always have, is that people are just all over the place in terms of PVE advancement and PVP ability/interest. We have to accept that reality.
Personally, I'm still in the "discovery" phase of playing PVE, with 4 main characters, only one of whom has finished a full campaign. I enjoy a little PVP, and can field a couple good builds, but mainly do it because it lets me unlock new skills for heroes. But I'm also active in contributing to GuildWiki, so I know a lot more about the game than my actual experience in it would suggest. :P
Oh, and I will volunteer for this right now: If anyone has characters they want to take through any of the three campaigns, let's use this thread or another one to organize ourselves. I especially need to advance in Nightfall, but I've got chars to take through Proph and Factions as well.

I second this idea. We should decide what days are good for what and go from there.
Harsh: How far are you in Nightfall? I'm in the very beginning stages and am having a heck of a time at getting up to level 12/Lieutenant rank so I can progress with the campaign.
Janson: Listen bitches, just shut up and get back to licking my floor clean.
I'm not dealing with your kind of crap today.
I've got 4 characters at the start of the Command Post quests or thereabouts, several more quests to do to move on from there I guess. Then I've got 2 lowbies on Istan, one of whom is 11 (Dervish) and the other 5 (Paragon). Willing to play any of them, though my lowbies need armor first.
I should stop creating new characters and get my existing ones through the campaigns, eh? :P

We're ALWAYS patient with noobs. Always have been, and it'll stay that way. Even if you mess up during a game, no one's gonna jump down your throat.
You can learn as we go, it's surprisingly easy to pick up. A spike is a large amount of damage delivered from any number of sources within a very small time frame. Usually, when you hear something like a "Blood Spike team", it's a team that calls a single target, then the whole team spams a spell (in this case usually Shadow Strike/Oppressive Gaze) on it at the same time. The idea is to do enough damage to kill the target quickly so the healers don't have time to react.
Hard to say, we might just have to say "PvP on thursdays", 'cause I don't think a lot of people have steady schedules.
Wait, what's my password again
Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
Same password you use for everything.

I'm all for joining an active PvP focused alliance because to be honest PvE doesn't interest me a great deal now that I've used it to unlock every skill.
IGN: Nion Zanari or Theldranin Eriae
I don't know, Chris Lee (I think, I could be wrong) was being a real prick the other night when we all were getting ready for TA and he found out I don't have very many skills unlocked.
- Do the Zaishen Challenge and Zaishen Elite battles (which are against AI). Just for the experience. Doesn't matter what character you use.
- If you want to unlock some skills, you can earn up to 2000 Balthazar Faction each day by doing the Zaishen Challenge. You can bring your heroes with you. You can earn a LOT of easy faction this way. Pick the AI team you find easiest to beat. (Personally, I take a PBAOE ele build to destroy the IW mesmers.) The great thing about this is, if you don't use the faction for PVP skills, you can use it for skills for your heroes.
- Check GuildWiki for PVP-related builds in your favorite profession(s). Pick one in the "Tested" (aka favored, aka vetted) category that sounds good, and for which you have most or all the skills unlocked. Unlock any needed skills (see above). Set up a template for that build.
- Head into Random Arenas. Your teams will suck, there is little coordination, and you'll lose as often as you win, but you'll get experience in PVP and a little faction. Just don't base your opinion of all GW PVP on RA.
Just my very basic suggestions, from one PVP newb to others. :P
