I just moved into my dorm that I'll be living in for the next nine months, and it's looking a little bare. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a website where I could find some good band posters -- stuff for bands like The Tallest Man on Earth, Joanna Newsom, Sunset Rubdown, Deer Tick, etc. Any websites with cool movie posters would be appreciated, too.
I know that Amazon has some good stuff, but I know there are a lot of websites out there with especially neat or stylized posters, or else stocks of old concert posters, but I don't remember any off the top of my head.
Every college I have been to or visited seems to have a poster fair or sale at the beginning of a semester. It seem's like a good way to get some decorations cheap though may not exactly be what you are looking for.
I wouldn't really want to pay for poster's unless you get a really good deal as they all seem to be outrageously expensive. My current dorm has 4 poster's up that I got for free from event's, or asking for them from a video store/movie theatre. While one I paid for and it was way overpriced.

Most of those bands you listed don't really do licensed posters. You might just keep an eye out for when they're in town and abscond with the show flyers when the show is done. Most venues are perfectly fine with you taking them if you ask.
You might also check your local indie record stores. They might have promotional material that they don't need.
All the bands you've mentioned have had silkscreen gigposters made at some time or another, by a variety of artists. I know this because I make gigposters myself (and have some for sale on my site).
Check out www.gigposters.com and search the site. There might be some stuff in the classifieds, or failing that you should go directly to the websites of any artists whose work you like, and see what they have available.
Silkscreen prints are usually done in limited numbers (50-300, sort of numbers) and are signed and numbered. Unlike digital prints, they are printed using actual mixed ink so are much more vibrant and often have a nice textured quality. They're also quite collectable and can be go up in value if they become rare.
Considering they're practically pieces of one-of-a-kind are in their own rights, they can actually be pretty cheap to pick up, however I would suggest getting any prints you buy framed rather than put up with tacks.
Try Block Posters. It's like Rasterbator but less abstract (ie, no dots). My friend made a picture of the Hoff and posted it on the school bulletin boards.
College poster fairs tend to perpetuate generic and cliched college posters. No, I don't need a poster of the two lesbians kissing or Travolta/Jackson pointing guns.

Everyone I have gone to has had some cool movie posters/band posters. I mean it's all pretty big stuff like Pink Floyd and hugely popular movies but they were still neat.

Yep. Find it. Every person who has ever moved into a dorm has gone to one of these things and bought six posters for their first semester.

Good luck with the poster search!
