There's a Main Event that I used to go to that had an old arcade jet-fighter game. It's not Afterburner II, but you had a selection (that was purely cosmetic) of a few jets and you would fly in a similar fashion to Afterburner II, destroying wave upon wave of weaker opponents until finally, a boss appeared.

And these bosses were fucking huge. You'd get this warning that covered the entire screen, with a klaxon blaring, as the screen panned to behind your jet to show this impossibly large aircraft closing very quickly. It had the militaristic name for it, along with a menacing codename in quotes. One of the later stages had a large flying aircraft carrier (a square platform with runways on it) with four propellers that you had to shoot while also destroying waves of enemy jets. Once you destroyed the propellers, an experimental, fast-as-shit jet with a mysterious and foreboding name appeared, that would zoom about the screen and call in some ion cannon shit from space. There were also bosses (IIRC) like giant flying wings with ICBM launchers in the wings that were weakpoints.

Please oh mighty G&T, what the fuck is this game?
