Basically, a new 360 controller with monochromatic ABXY buttons, concave analog sticks and a weird transforming D-pad. Only comes with the Play & Charge kit for $65.
My thoughts: Couldn't they just pick the best feel for a D-Pad and have that? Why do they have a disc mode? And doesn't washing all the color out of the ABXY buttons make the color cues from on-screen button prompts rather useless if you have not memorized the button colors already?
Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.
Aren't there, like, rubber covers for your D-pad and the analog sticks anyway?
The metallic look makes no sense without a similar console coloring.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.
Well I think it looks cool at least. Sadly though even with an improved d-pad I wont be using the new d-pad because I've gotten too used to having to not use the fucking thing due to it sucking so much. I can't just try to get used to it again.

Are on-screen button prompts going to be monochrome as well? This controller doesn't even really match with the new Black and sleek Xbox 360, so I'm not really sure what they're trying here stylistically.
I had heard that the new 360 came with controllers that had a better D pad that the older models. I realise this transforming D pad is different, but was I misinformed about the 360 S controllers?

1) You should probably post a picture with the dpad in the other configuration
2) The idea is that you'll have something fit for classic arcade titles, while the other config works for fighting games and such.
3) The color hues aren't going to hurt anything. We made it through the SNES generation just fine.*
In Japan the SNES controller had ABXY and Red/Yellow/Blue/Green. Anywhere else had two purples, and two grey-purples.

Pretty sure everyone knows which color goes with which button by now anyways.

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

I don't, but I don't have an xbox and it makes playing games on one incredibly frustrating.
It looks slick, but I'm still a bit iffy on 60.00. I'll be waiting for reviews on whether or not the new d-pad is more of a true d-pad than a disguised analog stick. In the meantime my current controllers will suffice.
I'll probably end up caving eventually though. :...:
I'm not sure I get it. Internally is this still the same horrid Dpad the Xbox controller's always had? If so, they are almost literally polishing a turd with this.
My thoughts: Couldn't they just pick the best feel for a D-Pad and have that? Why do they have a disc mode?
What I said in the old video games sales thread was that solutions that are this obviously strange (at least in the industry I work in) are usually an effort to get around a patent. I can't think of any reason to use the disk mode, anyway.

My wife doesn't. At least not yet.
In my experience, quite a number of people who aren't familiar with video games start learning the controls via colors. "Oh, so the red button does this, and the green button does that?" Shades of gray aren't as useful for that.
Also, I don't need a play and charge kit, 'cause I got awesome rechargeable batteries.
Waiting game for me. I'd love an improved D-pad, but want it affordable and colorful.

I use the rechargeable packs, but I have a charger stand, so the charge and play kit is largely useless to me. I do like the style of this controller though, so I may pick one up when it's sold by itself.
i like the play and charge kit because it's easy to plug right in if it dies on you. what irks me is that this couldn't have been included with the slim 360.
i know there's probably a good reason but it would have been nice to get them in one package, and if they do start packing these in with the slim 360s i will be even more annoyed.
that said i do want one of these

I have four of the battery packs, so I can keep two on the charging stand, one spare, and one in my controller. I didn't actually buy four of the rechargable packs, I just happened upon them all somehow.
Hey wow, now we can all experience looking at an xbox 360 controller if we had near complete color blindness!
I haven't had many problems with my controller design, they just need to be more durable imo. I have like 4 battery packs too (one for each controller). The color scheme may make it a buy for me, if I don't buy a Reach controller instead. Kind of bored with my Red one.

Didn't Nintendo's d-pad patent expire a few years ago, though?

Europe had the colours too.
(I would imagine yes, though it'll just involve a bit of waiting.)
Don't ever change, adytum.
I've got a bad case of lovin' you.
I mean, who looks at their controller while they're playing the game anyway?
That being said. It does look pretty sexy and if it has a better D-pad I'm interested.
But I already have 3 Xbox controllers and 2 fightpads at the moment so I can't say I'm in a hurry to buy one.

Fighting games are unplayable on the 360 unless you have a joystick thing.
what does that even mean? and why is it helpful?
Then again, you get used to it. My friend gave me an Xbox 360 arcade stick, free, and I've just stared at it because I'm so used to using a gamepad.
EDIT: Still waiting on the new 'S' controllers to appear in stores without the recharge kit. They're sort of dragging their feet on that.
You can twist it, anf like... the d buttons raise up or someting, instead of being a disc
k found the video
weird
i wonder if it will actually work to improve the response
Still, I dig the monochrome buttons, I always though the primary colours looked so gaudy.
I just can't get over that. Yikes.

I actually don't want a charger kit, and I wouldn't mind saving the money towards another game.
Once it is released separately it'll probably be the same price as the others.

Playing Super Metroid and Castlevania IV with it is pure bliss.

also a comparison pic
i really want one. i'm such a whore.
I cannot agree more.
I'd love to hear a hands-on assessment from someone who plays fighting games.
Isn't it using the same one as the DS lite?
If so I disagree. Too mushy. I'd have to say DSi. Nice and clicky with good diagonals.
