small complaint about two enforcers...

My girlfriend lost her phone at the start of the convention at Subway on Sunday. We immediatly went to the lost and found. They told us to keep checking back. So we figured it would be a good idea to check back every hour. So we did, around 5 oclock we check back one last time.

One enforcer leaned over, and told another we've been back there multiple times every hour. We were asked what time we lost it, we said around 10AM.

Then, the two enforcers that were talking about it started cracking up laughing. To our face.

Seriously? Could you be anymore rude? making a mockery of a stressful situation - her bank information, her email, msn, facebook, twitter... and they laughed to our face?

Christ sakes, I have never had a complaint about PAX Enforcers - until this one.

Dude, if it has all that information on it, then you need to CALL THE MOTHERFUCKING COMPANY and tell them to lock the phone and to remove it from the grid so they cant use it. Simple as that. If you havent done it yet, then I will share a laugh with those two Enforcers.

    Sir, PHONE. LOST.

We DID do that, but the time to FIND the contact information is enough to wreck havoc still.

Yes, we will contact the company we have no access with using magical telekineses.

I know it's not exactly the big thing you're worried about, but I'd post in the lost and found thread to see if anyone picked up her phone.

Yknow, now that I realize who you are and that we have had some laughs on IRC, I do feel bad for my response. Im sorry if I came off brash, but really this same thing happened to me last year when I lost a particularly nice and expensive Bluetooth device during the Metroid Metal set. Though they didn't exactly laugh at me, they did practically send the same message: You'll never find it after about an hour. Same goes with kidnappings: Most victims are dead or exploited after 48 hours. You are at a convention with techies. Shiny shit is practically currency amongst us.

It's understandable but the point is being mocked by staff is incredibly rude. and your response was pants on head retarded, I'm posting about losing a phone and you tell me to call the company to cancel it. What the fuck.

mspencer - thanks for the offer. We took care of it already. the issue is this, the phone is in her grandmas name. she doesn't know her grandmas number by heart, and her grandma only wants access to the account - only she could cancel the phone.

without that said phone - we had to wait to get back to Tacoma and use the house phone to call her grandma and have it cancelled/reported stolen.

I know, looking back that was idiotic =P

I just figured that out of two people, there was possibly a second one. Goes to show that what they say about assuming is true, eh?

Pretty much this. Shaddz, you only realised that what you said was fucking stupid and you felt bad when you realised that you've talked to Henners a few times on IRC? smh.

If what Henners says went down the way it did, those two enforcers are dipshits. Real talk.

I'm extremely sorry about your experience. As one of the Enforcers who volunteer in Info Booth I can tell you we do try to be on our best behavior, and are very aware losing anything, let alone something as personal as phones have become is very hard and not a good way to experience PAX. We do get quite a few phone returned to Lost and Found by you wonderful PAX attendees, and try our best get them back to their owners. If I were to hazard a guess I'd say I saw about a dozen lost and found during my 6 hour shift today.

I'm not sure who the two enforcers involved were, but I would suggest you send an email to Kristen at klindsay@penny-arcade.com. She manages us enforcers and can get to the heart of the issue.

Also send an email to pax_questions@paxsite.com with a description of the phone, as we often find things when we are cleaning up, and yours may turn up.

Shiny currency is currency among us, but that doesn't mean we're theives. I had about 4-5 lost phones turn up in my theater over the weekend, all brought to the desk or the attention of an enforcer instead of pocketed. At East I had a woman who barely spoke english hand me a phone. She knew I could help because of my shirt.

I apologize for the enforcers in that experience. I'm pretty sure you already know this, but they aren't indicative of us as a whole. I sincerely hope you get your phone back, or at the very least your personal information is safe.

I resent that comment that it's currency among us.
we like shiny things, but most of us like shiny things that are *ours*
I found a shiny new HTC phone on 6th floor near the Plants -vs- Zombies area, and immediately ran over to the nearest enforcer with it.
Moreover, on Sunday I saw someone's phone plugged into the wall (charging) by a garbage can, around a busy area. The owner was nowhere in sight, but no one stole that phone either.

That said, I hope you made a note of the enforcers' names. That was rude and they were insensitive clods.

When I got back to my car last night, I realized I left the window down for nearly 14 hours yesterday. After a slight panic, I noticed nothing was missing, hopped in and drove home. I'm still rather shocked by it.

Didn't catch the names, I emailed the description and the times they were there. One was there from 10AM to 5PM. He was there EVERY time we checked. My girlfriend (it was her phone) said every one else was nice...but what they did was really uncalled for.

I had some issues with some PAX enforcers as well. Although, I have to say before telling my story that 99% of the other enforcers were totally fun and I had no qualms with at all.

The first night (friday) some friends (one of which also an enforcer) and I decided to head over to console freeplay at about 1:20 AM to play really quick (console play was open till 2 AM and we really hadn't even planned to play for that long). The first two girls we talked to were sort of cold and non-responsive which didn't really bother me too much as I don't really need them to lick my butthole to feel like Ive been given good aid or service. So we went over to where we needed to go to check out some controllers and we were greeted by two more female scowly faces who actually provided us with some controllers.

We get to the console we were assigned to and started it up and I realized my controller's batteries were dead. No bigs once again. I was advised by my enforcer pal to go up and aquire some freshies and this is where I felt really shit on.

"Hi! The batteries in this controller are dead. Can I get some new ones?"

*In an extremely mean and cold tone*
"It's like practically 1:30... so you're turning this controller in then?"

"Um, no. I would like some new batteries so I can play, please."

Then she lets out a disgruntled sigh and asks another enforcer to get some batteries.

I kind of sarcastically remarked that I "feel the love!" and it seemed to lighten her up a bit, but still! I realize these people are volunteers, but why bother volunteering for something you're going to treat as a burden?! PAX is about fun; for enforcer and attendee alike!

At any rate, this was my first PAX and every second of the rest of my experience was freaking AMAZING and all the enforcers I came in contact with were absolutely awesome. I plan on going every year from now on and also hope to attend PAX east.

I can tell ya right now if they came off as put upon it wasn't intentional...if anything it was probably more just the exhaustion slipping out. Console Freeplay is one of the hardest/insane areas to work in, at PAX. Up at PAX Boston I saw it first hand after offering to help them out after my normal Enforcer shift. It was friggin insane man. Heck I was just cleaning controllers and I was exhausted after an hour. Bottom line, Enforcers 99.9 % of the time try to be at their best but, at the end of the day they're still human like everybody else.....cept for BigRed...I am assuming robotics of some sort to be at work there.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured and I didn't really give them too hard of a time about the cranky demeanor because of it... which is amazing because I'm relentlessly a smartass :D I don't want them to have to feel like they have to be super nice no matter what and no matter how big of an asshole someone may be to them because I have to do that at my job and it sucks! Sometimes you're just cranky and you wanna be that way. Fine. I totally relate. I did, however, find the fact that the girl not only basically blew off my simple request for some batteries but essentially told me I was done before it was even really that close to being over a little fascist. I don't think I've ever felt really as free and happy as I did at PAX so it was kind of contradictory.

I do understand the fatigue factor and I have definitely said/done some mean things as a result to people that probably were undeserving of it, so yeah... I totally plan to return and no big deal really :)

Complaints of this nature should be dealt with privately. Although it is possible you are both correct about these happenings it is also completely possible that you misunderstood the situation. You should send an e-mail directly to their supervisor and allow them to remedy the situation instead of calling someone out publicly (because this is a tight community and you have provided very clear details about where and when these people worked) before they have had a chance to explain themselves.

    This.

I'm sorry you two had a bad experience. However, I'm fairly sure that this isn't the proper medium for personnel-related complaints. Someone posts something like that, then everyone either jumps to apologize, defend the actions, or pile on the complaints. In this instance, calling out nameless enforcers is like calling all of them out, with no one being given a chance to legitimately apologize or defend.

Ahhhh stop the fascism! I'm not calling anyone out; merely discussing what had happened. I'm really not that worried about it and I'm not even looking for an apology or to pin blame on anyone specifically. Just sharing a story like I plan to with the multitude of other positive ones I will also likely share on here. Jesus Christ... sorry I even brought it up! I definitely don't intend to express my honest opinion about anything here anymore :P

Tr0stky's right. I was referring to the OP.

But you can take that into account for yourself, because you did tell us exactly when and where they were working, including their gender, then called them mean, cold, and disgruntled and insinuated that they were assholes. It doesn't matter that you don't think it was a huge issue, you still made it a PUBLIC issue when it shouldn't be.

And I didn't say anything earlier in order to offend you so I'm sorry that it did.

As an Enforcer, I hate seeing things like this. That being said, I know many of us work long and hard shifts, and some times we aren't our best. It makes me regret the few times I didn't smile, or wasn't as friendly as I'd like to be.

Please believe that every single one of us loves each and every one of you. We want nothing but the best for you, and hope you all have the best possible time at PAX. I feel like I fail every time I don't make that happen.
