There's a big tattoo convention coming to town this coming weekend, and with all the big names that will be there I'm wanting to get another piece done. However, I'm not familiar with the way that works at conventions as far as appointments or anything. Anyone have any experience with that, like do I just walk up to the guy I want or do I need to call ahead or what?

The beauty of every convention I've been to is that they're first come first served. So, if you're been dying to get Paul Booth to ink you, show up early.
If you have a specific artist in mind, I'd try to get into contact with them somehow before the show. You might find out that they're already booked for the duration of the show, or maybe you can have them figure out the line work in advance so they can show up ready to go for your work.
Sounds good so far. So for the first come, first serve deal, I just give him the picture and let him have at it? Also, does anyone know how pricing goes? I didn't know if it would be more expensive than normal since it's a whole event thing.
Generally at shows I have seen the top ink slinggers charge up to $150/hr because they can charge that much. Depending on your work I would bring 1k at least.
That's kinda steep, but still along the lines of what I expected. If I do get a chance to see someone it'll be small and easy; I like to leave the bigger/complicated stuff for my usual artist to do anyway.

There are people here in Portland who charge $200+.
