Want a tattoo, but have an important question

So I've finally decided on a tattoo that I can be happy with. However, I'm overweight and finally on the track to losing it. So, my question is can weight loss (say about 80 or so pounds worth) fuck up an existing tattoo in any way? If it can, I'll wait until I've lost that weight. If not, then I probably won't wait.

Anyone know?

Depends on where you'll get the tattoo and how much your skin shrinks from the weight loss.

Right now I'm thinkin it would be best on the round of my shoulder, or the outside of my bicep. Not the fattest parts of me by far.

80 pounds is a lot though. I'd wait on it, and it can be a reward.

i'd also say leave off, it'll be a great incentive to lose weight

That part of your arm can change shape dramatically depending on how you are losing weight. (IE getting big or total cardio.) If you lose 80 pounds in trade for only 10 of muscle your arm would grow considerably. Much better to wait.

I have a skull on my right arm/shoulder area that looks funny when ever I start lifting too much because I got it when I was puny.

Yes, losing such a large amount of weight will almost certainly change the way your skin hangs, which will definitely impact the tattoo. As someone else said, make the tattoo a reward for yourself after you lose the weight.

Definitely wait. Use it as an incentive to slim down.

Losing weight first is a good idea

However, I have a tat there, then lost about the same amount of weight, and it seems to look about the same as it ever did.

Even small amounts of weight gain or loss can affect a tattoo. I've got a small one on my chest, I put on about 30 pounds in the 10 years since I got it and there is noticable stretching. It's not OMGWTF, but stretching the canvas affects the artwork. :)

I also say "wait". Unless of course you get a tattoo of the last page of a MAD magazine, then when you've lost all the weight, your skin could be loose enough to fold over to see the hilarious joke!

I'm in the same boat - want a tattoo, but going to wait. And good for you, by the way!
