[SOLVED]Cannot boot from cd (macbook, windows)

Macbook pro
No mac partition
I have no mac discs
Only windows XP partition

I got a virus and ran an antivirus program. Well now my computer will not get past the windows loading screen. Right before where the login starts, it blue screen then restarts.

I am able to f8 into trying to start in safe mode. I disable automatic restart and this is the error:

STOP: c0000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with status
of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

actually, its status of 0xc0000005

*Booting into safe mode has the same results.
*last known good config has the same results

I figured I could just run a repair off my windows disc, but I get no prompt to boot from cd. If I hold option when the computer boots up, only the windows XP OS shows up with no disc to boot from.

I have tried burning an ISO of rEFIt but I can't even get that cd to boot. I have tried multiple windows discs, so it's not a problem with a dirty disc.

No idea how to change the boot order in a mac, cus macs are dumb.

halp

What happens when you hold "c" when booting? Should force the Mac BIOS to boot from CD

Also check this info out good stuff on 0xc0000135

hmm, I checked it again and it was actually 0xc0000005. I just copy and pasted that from someone else that was having a similiar problem, but mine seems to be a little bit different. If it makes any difference.

Also I tried holding down c and nothin. Just boots into the crash.

And I can't even reformat, since I can't get the cd to work. ughgh

    Try doing this:
    1. Shut down the computer.
       2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
       3. Turn on the computer.
       4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
       5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
       6. Release the keys.

(usually I let it chime 3 times before releasing, but whatever works)

then try holding c to boot from CD

Alright, I tried that and letting it ding 3 times. On the third white screen, I released the keys and then held down c. Still didn't work :(

The windows xp disc boots on all my other computers.

Well it seems that I'm an idiot. Mac EFI doesn't like to talk to XP CDs, something to do with a difference in MBR etc

Shouldn't it be able to boot from an rEFIt cd though, so I could then boot from an xp cd?

The macbooks were given to me by my school, and my first HD died so the school replaced it. They never installed an os onto it, so I just used my copy of XP.

If I can't get this work, I think I'm just going to take the damn thing out, copy the files onto my external, format it, and see if it will boot from cds after the format.

Hold down OPTION on boot. Your xp cd should show up and you may be able to boot to it. But it has been awhile since I ran bootcamp... o_O

Also, here at work our mac/pc lab hates anything Symantec/Norton on the windows side; it's a guaranteed blue screen after restart.

Holding down option doesn't work, that was in my OP.

I took the HD out and copied the files, so I'm going to format it and see if I can boot from a cd after that.

If I can't boot from a cd after that, Im completely lost as what to do.

Can you go into boot setup (F10 or somethingduring startup, I think) and change the disc drive to be the first on the windows boot list? Mine used to look something like
    1: REMOVABLE STORAGE DRIVE :D
    2: HDD
    3: REMOVABLE MEDIA (usb ports)
4: SOMETHINGTECH MEDIA ADAPTER (memory card reader)
and every time I tried to start up it would see Rollercoaster Tycoon in my D: drive and get all pissy because it wasn't a windows boot disk and refuse to start up.

If you can't get it to work that way you could try booting from an external HDD or flash drive.

also it is only a matter of time before someone suggests linux

wakk, can you get into the BIOS? make sure the hard drive is set to IDE

a friend of mine had a similar problem, based on the symptoms, and for some reason his hard drive was set to AHCI and when he set it back, it worked again

Problem is macs don't have a bios like that. The only way to change how things are booted is through the EFI, with a program like rEFIt.

I ended up taking apart the macbook, copying the HDD files with an external inclosure, and formating the drive. After I did that, I put it back into the macbook and it allowed me to boot from a cd again.

There is never an easy way is there :(

I know you're only trying to help, and I appreciate it, but in the future can people only post answers on things that they actually know about? The OP said at least a dozen times that it is a Mac, and anybody that has ever had to install OS X or Windows on a Mac knows they don't have a BIOS menu like this. I mean, the next time somebody says that their car isn't starting I won't go in their thread and say "HAY GUYS SOMETIMES MY BIKE'S CHAIN GETS JAMMED ON THE REAR CARTRIDGE YOU COULD CHECK THAT"
