James Cameron's Avatar:
There's a tense string sound over the score that's just three notes I think. It happens twice I believe near the end; most prominently when
michelle rodriguez dies
but also during the final showdown. I swear I've heard this exact set of notes from a different movie. Can you find a sample or name the movie? I don't own Avatar otherwise this would be much easier...
It's a pretty common riff in Horner's scores. It's pretty much all over Wrath of Khan, and Aliens. It shows up a fair bit in some of the other's he's done, like Willow, Sneakers, Enemy At The Gates, Troy...
At the time of Battle Beyond the Stars/Wrath of Khan/Aliens, he claimed it was due to having to make a zillion movies in no time at all, hence the similarities in the scores... then it shows up all over Avatar some 25 years later >.>
A little bit of research suggests it was cribbed off of Wagner originally though.
