UT3: It's Real
Epic expands its love affair with Xbox 360. First footage and new details.
by Douglass C. Perry
US, January 25, 2007 - Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.
Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.
Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.
The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.
We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.

god damn you XBOX360, I'm eventually going to have to buy your ass
Plus, I guess this solidifies their thought that 2003/2004 were the same game with upgrades.
Doubtful, but they fucking should. Nobody should be forced to play a FPS with a goddamned controller, nobody.
Also, I doubt that PS3, 360 and PC players will be playing together. Maybe 360 and PC but that's about it. Though it would be awesome.
If this happens, there will be hell to pay. Really. I'm going down to the pike store right now so I've got something to mount Mark Rein's head on.
Somebody at Epic did say that UT3 was for the PC first, but who knows what kind of corruption Microsoft's buckets of cash have done since that was originally stated.
Great news, I really wanted this to come to 360, Live is just too damned awesome for me to quit it now.
UT2003/2004 are lumped together, as 2004 is really just an upgrade to 2003.
Nobody is being forced to. If you want KBAM, play it on PC. If you want to use a controller, buy it for 360.
Or, you know, don't buy the game at all.
The correct answer is:
"What the hell are you talking about? There is only UT and UT2004!"

not Unreal Tournament 3
Somebody tell me?
PLEASE?!
The whole reason that Unreal Championship was designed the way it was, was to fit the console. You only had access to 3 guns and you switched between the weapons with 1 button.
I dont see this controlling well unless they get real inventive for these consoles.
I will most likely get this on the PC if it doesn't crush my system. I'll rent it for he 360 and see how it controls.
You cant dodge, jump, wall jump and fire accurate shots with a console controller.
Seriously, you bought one? Haha.
Otherwise:

God DAMN. Look at the texture detail on that guys face.
Then look at those titties. Goddamn.
I'll miss mods a little, but I'll take a constantly smooth framerate over them any day.
Try Roboblitz to see how a UE3 game will run on your system.
Edit: also,
I, for one, refuse to buy this game if it does not feature real-time breast physics.
If the 360 starts getting treated like a PC I may buy one soon. You know give it a mouse and keyboard. A standardized gaming PC is what I want.
I see the advantages of the KBAM but if everyone has a 360 controller then everyone it even, so I don't see the big issue.
Also the First UT didn't have a year, the 2nd one (2k3+2k4) did, and now it doesn't. They aren't really breaking a standard or anything.
True enough and nothing wrong with using a controller
but KBAM is the only way to play especially these type of games on the PC
on the 360 than of course the controller is good, but nothing like the KBAM
When is it coming out, like, spring? If do i'll pick it up for the 360, probably the PC if I can raise the money, but that's probably a bit after summer when I can.

Sadly boobs don't jiggle in power armor.
I think I'm going to wait and see on this one since I thought 2k3/2k4 were mediocre.
Gamepads I feel don't respond well to slight movements when trying to correct your aiming. I always try and push the stick to its edge and quickly let go - it's pretty much impossible to make slight stick movements when you're in a nerve wracking fight and some Locust is coming up to your ass, chainsaw revving :P
Well, controllers are fun on a lot of shooters. It generally isn't good on twitch shooters, but I mean, if everyone uses a controller it isn't a big deal. Also, Unreal Championship 2 for Xbox was actually well done for the controller though. Personally, I find controllers to be more competitively balanced in that there is one standard controller that basically everyone uses, unlike KB&M. I'm not sure if I'll buy this at all, but if I do I'm probably going to have to go with PC.
The only reason is that Unreal Championship for the Xbox is long dead now, and Unreal Championship 2 is better, but not by much. I popped in UT2004 the other day with all the updates and there were still more than enough games playing. The only thing that might nudge me to the 360 is the constant framerate. I mean, my PC could probably handle it, but I'm sure the 360 will handle it a lot better.
I hate to shit on someone's parade, but gone are the days in which we could assume "console version=consistent framerate." I trust Epic to make a quality game--I mean, if anyone can do it, they could, but frankly I don't think I'll be holding my breath.
Seen Gears of War? I've never seen it slow down, not once. And that is one damn fine lookin' game.
