PC Case/Card help/advice

My beloved PC died a quiet and more or less natural death while I was away on a trip. My wife often works from home so it was essential that it be replaced immediately. I gave her some basic specks and she went out and purchased a computer.

My plan was to get a reasonably priced mid-range PC that I could then plug my perfectly serviceable Graphics card into. I am by no means a hardcore gamer, but I do like my games and my GeForce 9800 GT, which was not-quite-top-of-the-line when I bought it has fulfilled all my needs for the past few years.

So the computer that fit our specks and price range was a Gateway SX2800 Series. Before my wife bought it she asked the folks at the the store...lets call it Zest Guy...if it would fit a video card because her husband (Me) had one that he wanted to put in. They assured her that yes it had the right PCI express slot for a video card.

Lo and behold when i get home I find that we have purchased a very "economy sized" PC. Its tiny, and there is no way in hell my card is fitting in it. Trying to make lemons out of lemonade I decide that perhaps I can just spring for a new and better graphics card that will fit only to find that there are really no "low profile" (which is what fits into this midget) graphics card that will even give me the performance of my old card, let alone better performance.

Returning the PC is not really an option because the return period is over and even if it wasn't we now have so many pictures programs and whatnot on it that it would be a major pain in the ass. Not to mention it was a pretty good deal when we got so we would have to shell out some bucks for another one.

So what should i do?

A) burn or uninstall all our stuff and start over .
B game away on a brand new PC with way shittier graphics than my old pc.
or, i just thought of this, C) Buy a new larger case and try to transfer the guts over to that? how hard is this?

I'm leaning towards C but I've never done it before.

As a side note if I'm gonna spring for a new case, and a new power supply while I'm at it, should i just upgrade my graphics card, or has the 9800 GT aged fairly well?

Any suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks

It uses a standard micro ATX motherboard.

That means you can probably use any case with it, possibly even the case from your dead computer.
If you decide to get a new case: Don't get one that includes a power supply. There are exceptions to this rule, but in general the ones included with cases are crap.

Those huge video cards only use one slot for the connection. The second one is for the heatsink/fan.

You'll probably get better advice in the stickied computer build thread, but that card is most definitely the bottleneck.

Thanks a bunch guys, I think i will salvage the case from my dead PC as suggested, and buy a new power supply that can handle the card.
