When I was about 5 or 6 my neighbors would get together to play mech warrior? (The original table top mech game) and I played a few times not really what was going on, but having a blast. Loved designing my ultimate mech. The same neighbor bought hero quest which I'd go over to play. Basically DnD Light I'm guessing.
After that I asked for dragon-quest for Christmas. Much the same as hero quest, but a little more in depth if I remember right. I moved to CA right after that, still have the game in the box, but never played it. In HS, I met a friend with a horrible family situation, and he moved in. He was into white wolf RPG's. Hell, I still have a DnD book, one of the werewolf/vampire books, and what I believe is a cyberpunk? book. (Futuristic post apocalyptic I believe. Think its rifts?) I've always been interested in it, to try it, but its hard to find anybody that's into it.
Add in the stereotypes etc.... its never something I've really explored.
I think I'd really like table top gaming, with at the very least the mechwarrior stuff, and war hammer stuff, but have always thought I'd like the DnD stuff too. I love reading fantasy serious and love the settings.
So with the internet, is it possible to play these type of games without having to find a local hobby shop/etc...?
I guess I'm ready to come out of the closet... lol
Thanks.

You'll still need to get the rule books for whatever you're playing, and some companies have issued C&Ds to prevent further releases for Vassal for their properties so it's possible that your game of choice may not be fully supported graphically.
Edit: Also, where are you located? There may be some PAers nearby who could re-initiate you into the cult of oddly shaped dice. You may have to meet them behind the Olive Garden, but it's worth it.
