Before I get started, I know that Flippy_D has his thread. But his thread is riddled with silly, silly rules, and I thought, "Y'know what, fuck that shit." So I'm starting an alternative thread. There's so much more to be had of things so I'm leaving things more open-ended.
This thread is for the discussing and sharing of music from video games, remixes / covers of music from video games, composers of video game music, or any sort of music that was inspired by video games. (When I say share, I mean YouTube some stuff to us!)
As you guys post up sources for music, I'll link 'em up here.
Keep in mind though that music that is sold is meant to be bought and offering up places to get it for free is against our rules, and actually just wrong to begin with. What this thread is not for is telling us you turn off music / audio in video games in favor of other music / audio sources, or that you don't like music. Express your sentiment by not posting here.
That's it for 'rules' so let's get down to the nitty-gritty.
I love music in video games. A lot of my immersion and drive to play through games or experience moments in games is the music. It's unfortunate that people shut off the music in games, much like how they skip cutscenes (and I mean the first time cutscenes play out for them, not replays), because people put effort into this part of video game development. I'm even nerdy enough about this shit to have a couple of favored composers; Michiru Yamane, who has gone to freelancing work after leaving Konami, and Hitoshi Sakimoto, the man behind the beautiful soundtrack of Valkyria Chronicles and also behind the Final Fantasy Tactics score.
But I also have a lot of appreciation for people who remix or cover video game music. Usually not a fan of stuff that adds lyrics to game music. And I like it best when remixes / covers are able to stick to the original intent of feeling (as in, if a song is meant to get you pumped up, by god the remix better be the same way).
There's also awesome awesome awesome people out there who make music inspired by video games. Specifically, I'm talking about The Protomen. Look them up if you don't know them. You're still reading, go look them up.
And now for what sparked my making this thread; last night a friend told me about someone who has remixed music from Mega Man X 3 using the Sega Genesis soundchip. Madness, surely, but I asked her for links right away and was not disappointed.

Yes yes, I know the Genesis can't actually play all those instruments at once, but that's kind of a moot point.
And as an example of what separates this thread from Flippy_D's:
