My laptop mouse seems to have decided it doesn't like me anymore. The computer was left running while I threw together dinner (not at all unusual), and when I came back the mouse touch pad no longer registered movement (though left/right click still works). Any chance there's a possible software/driver fix for this (or anything else I should check) or am I stuck assuming it's a hardware failure? I've run a thorough anti-virus scan (using AVG and avast!) and that hasn't brought up any issues. I'd try a separate mouse, but my laptop only has USB ports and I don't have access to a USB mouse at the moment.
I don't think so, though I'm not sure I'd know if I do. How exactly (or where) would I check?
The device is showing up as enabled under the Mouse program in Control Panel, but when I activate tapping that doesn't work. If I disable it there I lose the left and right click, but re-enabling it doesn't get touchpad functionality back. Is there some way to disable the touchpad without disabling the buttons?
Nope, no luck. F7 is nothing in particular, and F8 toggles the display settings. There's nothing in the manual about any function key disabling the touchpad.

Also the purple/blue graphic stenciled on the key.
Good idea though, thanks.
