So, a friend of the friend is selling his 360 for $250, which is apparently trade-in value at EB, so if I decide I don't like it as much I can trade it in there.
My dilemma is this: Do I buy the 360 for $250, knowing that I won't have a warranty in case it bricks or whatever 360s do, or do I buy a PS2 for $130 new since I've never had one?
I want a 360, and $250 is an excellent price for a pro unit, but the lack of a warranty makes me worry. He bought it last fall if that matters with the odds of it breaking or not.
I also want a PS2 though. Not as much as a 360, but it would be half the price, and new.
I know the libraries of both systems, and there are plenty of titles I'd get for both.
So. What should I do? Is it worth taking my chances on a briefly used 360 without a warranty, or just go ahead and pickup a new psTwo?

Best system ever maybe. Everyone should own one.
Best ever? Haha, no. Especially if you hate RPGs like I do.
While from my experience I wouldn't expect the 360 to break, you're dropping a lot of money down on used hardware. Both the 360 and PS2 could possibly become worthless in freak accidents, but at least with the Playstation 2 you'd have some coverage.
Gears of War
Dead Rising
Viva Pinata
Rainbow Six: Vegas
GR: AW
SC: Double Agent
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance if I don't get it for Wii first.
uh... Blue Dragon?
whereas on the PS2:
MGS3
Okami
Both Katamaris
Shadow of the Collosus
and more, I'm sure. I guess I didn't know the PS2's library as much as I thought.
and I can't think of anything else right off the bat.
This is very true. The PS2 has so many great games in all genres there is literally something great for any type of gamer to enjoy.
If it were me I would go for the 360 now because you are getting about 100 off of it. Then later pick up a PS2 once you have some spare cash because it will still be 130 the next time you have some cash saved up.
Tell him 200 to keep it in the family. Then it's be worth it.

This is 100% true. The hardware was a piece of shit, but the library was incredible.
If the 360's what you have your heart set on, get that.
The PS2's an amazing system, but it's not going anywhere. That's a good deal, and if you're confident in your friend's ability to take care of his stuff, go for it.
(Er, I should clarify: it's a system with amazing games)
You can always get a PS2 at any time.
(Just make sure you get the stuff that might go out of print early)

Meanwhile, the PS2 will only get cheaper from now on.
Your call, really.
funny cause I own all the systems and own the least amount of games for the PS2.
I hate fun?
Quite possibly.
I should probably get that checked out then huh?
God Hand for president!!!
Oh man, that was a low blow!
I never got a PS2 because first, I had an Xbox, and then, I never had disposable income to spend on another game system, as I then got a DS and then a Wii.
My main worry is just that the 360 will break randomly no matter what condition it's in and I won't have a warranty and it's going to cost me the difference of a new one to get it fixed anyway.
Marvel: UA sucks big on the Wii. The current gen versions are far better. Stay the fuck away from the Wii version, seriously. I beat the ps2 version and had a blast. I played the Wii one for six minutes and turned the console off in disgust.
And a ton of people have PS2s they hardly use at all and probably wouldn't mind loaning you to go through some of those games. Hell they probably own half of those games and you wouldnt even have to rent them. Nobody is going to loan you a 360.
I think the general consensus is that a PS2's more likely to randomly up and break than a 360, but I could be wrong.
Going by that list though, 360 all the way. PS2's mostly an eclectic/action/music/RPG gamer's dream.
you can easily get a year of live for like $30 on eBay. Also Live is MORE than worth the $50 a year.
see, now you're just making shit up with no facts to back it up
What's the chance of a 360 dying, anyway, if anyone knows?
EDIT: People who are annoyed are substantially more vocal than people who are happy. I think the 360 durability issues aren't nearly as common as the Internet would have you believe.
Steam ID : rwb36, Twitter : Werezompire,
At least the $50 is an option. You pay it, you get online multiplayer, free demos for almost every game that comes out, downloadable content...etc etc.
You also have the option to spend nothing extra, and get nothing extra.
You only have one of these options with the PS2.
Eh, maybe I've been unlucky. I've seen two die at seemingly random intervals, and my XB still works like a charm.
Then again, I don't use it nearly as much...
Though I only know 3 people who have had problems with their PS2s, and I know quite a few more people with PS2s than 360s. And they have had a lot more time to break.
Especially if you never plan on owning a ps3.
Way too many games you need to play.
and sony faced law suits pretty much for that same thing, what's your point?
And MS is nice enough to get your console back to you in a week(for me anyway)
