So there was a patch for Disgaea 4 last night. I refused the patch, but want to know if this
    1) fixed the dupe bug
    2) allowed the use of hd asagi.

Searching on the gamefaqs board, no you can still dupe, and yes you can use hd Asagi. Although you have to have gotten the regular post-game Asagi in order to get the bill for HD Asagi.

Well this may be old news to some people but if your like me and generally never got into the whole power leveling post game part of disgaea before then this may help you out. Yesterday I was tinkering around and about to give up on the whole thing because im on ordeals 3 and post game map 2 and the stupid bills wont pass for those and i was low on mana, so i was just tinkering with what i had collected without real farming and i realized something.

Easy massive amounts of mana in early-ish game without touching item/char world.

Everyone makes a big deal about statisticians. And sure they are the key to quick ubre leveling. But they are a pain in the ass to get as you have to go many levels deep in item world to get them in anything like usable numbers, or even a few numbers so you can dupe them using the dupe trick.

However, managers...are relatively easily bought from the general store. They are pretty common on Food items. So I had about 20 enforcers on two different items. I bought a ton of food and used the enforcers to combine all the managers until I had a stack of 300. I had about 3 enforcers left, all you really need is two, but the more the better. Now transfer your managers and the remaining enforcers into a cheap (Important...as cheap as you can find) spear. Equip the spear on any human character...preferably one you dont use much.

Proceed to use the first part of the dupe trick (Fill up your warehouse and inventory completely. General store is the best way because you would eventually use the food or you could do this part first so you could get the managers from the food.)

Now, with your inventory and warehouse completely full, reincarnate your human wielding the spear with the managers and enforcers on it, into a monster type creature.

The spear will go to the rosen shop because he cant equip it as a monster.

Go to the weapon vendor and use the rest of the dupe trick. Go to the spear, try it on to a character that can use spears, buy it IN THE TRY ON window. Then exit the shop, reenter the shop and repeat this trick about 40 times.

Then pick any legendary item you had available (I like to use one of the full stat boosters like imperial seal or the highest you have access to thats a legendary). Move 6 stacks of managers onto the seal, then equip the seal on whoever can clear the level grinding areas the fastest. (5-2 or 9-4) Probably Valzy using his tempest fugre move. 5-2 after raising the monster rank to 8 is great for experience because level 99 mobs have the same experience value as level 226 or something monsters due to a bug) but 9-4 is better for mana because you get the 50% more mana block.

One run of 9-4 this is worth 30k mana to valze and only a little less to whoever is in the mana temple evilality with him.

Now all I need is a few statisticians to do the same dupe trick and leveling is not a grind anymore. It makes the whole idea of the post game more bearable then thinking you need to grind just to get to the point where you can grind to get the hard stuff.

So you need to reincarnate your generics every time they want to learn a new rank of a class, right? Does a character lose anything permanently if you don't reincarnate them as "Genius" every time?

  • azith28azith28 Registered User regular
Mana goes to 0 after reincarnation so be sure and spend everything shy of the cost of reincarnation + the genius level before doing it.
    not sure about the rest

If you're just reincarnating from a warrior into a warrior+1, it doesn't really matter how you do it. You might lose attacks, but you can just relearn them anyways. It's more important when you're going between classes, like mages. You don't want to reincarnate your fire mage into a good-for-nothing ice mage, you'll just lose all your fire spells. You pick Genius so that they'll keep them.

Man, just hit MoO4 and found the mecca of leveling. It's crazy how fast I'm earning Mana and Exp.

    Also...
Laharl is an annoying little bastard. He's super freaking powerful with dual magichange, bleah.

At what level of reincarnation do you start losing spells?

Also, didn't there used to be a mage level that learned fire, ice, and wind spells, so you could go directly from whichever kind you started with to star to the 3 kinds level to the max level? Or has that changed? I've played all three, but I got burned out on 2 and 3 before I could get power leveling going.

  • blaze_zeroblaze_zero Registered User regular
Pretty sure you don't lose spells anymore. I think they took that system out in 3.

What you DO lose is your skill points in said spell. That's what the retention rate is in the Reincarnation area when choosing Genius.
Genius lets you keep 95% of your exp in each skill. So if you JUST got Giga Fire up to level 10, it might go back to level 9 with almost full exp in the bar. If you went something lower, that amount would be a lot less.

If you have a skill at level 1, though, you no longer lose it and have to get it back. It will still be there.

Innocents are just random like that.

But, did you go 10 floors and not have it pop, or go through all 30+ floors of the item and not see it? The former has happened to me quite often, but if it's the latter? Damn, the Random Number God must hate your ass.

No, I mean I have an item with a Manager on it, and I cleared 30 levels of item world, and no manager innocents appeared for me to subdue, and I have a max level (30) item with an unsubdued manager that I can't do shit about.

Bad luck, but it's nothing worth fretting over. As said, you can get managers from anything. More importantly, there's an innocent called an Enforcer that lets you move unsubdued innocents. You can have a lv300 manager without ever touching the item world, if you so desire.

Which route did you go through?

  • silence1186silence1186 Character shields down! As a wingmanRegistered User regular
I took the innocent route each time it was offered. I didn't have the innocent radar until after, when I passed it. Also, my TV is not HD, and all the picture is very fuzzy, especially the numbers, so I have no idea what is going on half the time.

If you're having trouble seeing them, the game always quickly pans to them at the start of a floor, and plays a little *ding* sound. It does the exact same thing when a mystery gate appears too.

So I'm trying out reverse pirating for the first time and finding myself a little confused.

Am i suppose to open the treasure chests or throw them on the ship? are the treasures better if you toss them on the ship unopened? I assume im suppose to toss the innocents i want as well but so far I've not seen anything i desperately wanted (But only tried a few times so far). I guess i need to get an item to level 20 then dupe it a bunch so i can have something to practise on.

Tossing em onto the ship increases the rank of the item in the chest by 1, tossing innocents rather than defeating them doubles their level.

...I super hated reverse pirating in D3.

Also I suspect that by the time this comes out in the UK y'all will be burnt out on Disgaea, haha.

I would honestly just kill the innocents while RP. It's a lot easier and less of a hassle.

  • The WolfmanThe Wolfman Registered User regular
You capture rather than kill because the innocents subdued level could be anywhere between 10-50, depending on the item's quality. And since you're probably going to want 300-500 of them, the less you have to do the better.

On the other hand though, with the super easy dupe trick out there now... that's probably a moot point.

The main issue though, is that I'm clearing every level of an item, and the innocent I need to subdue never appears. I guess my question is, is this a rare thing, and I have shitty luck, or is this something I should expect every time I go through an item. Also, are there any countermeasures to make sure innocents don't go to waste?

  • azith28azith28 Registered User regular
wait, so if you reverse pirate and kill all the innocents you get a small number of all of them? What if there are too many for the population of the item? does it just randomly take some?

If you went through all 30 floors in one go and saw nothing, your luck just stinks. But otherwise no, it's not the norm.

But if you absotively posilutely need that innocent, then after 10 floors just reset and try again. But you shouldn't have to do this very often.

I would do 10 floors at a time, and then leave and save, because I'm really wary of mystery rooms. When I had to level up the common sword 10 times for the story, I went into a mystery room that lowered the effective level by 5, and had all my time wasted and had to do it again. So since then I've been paranoid about doing the item world 10 levels at a time, since there are so many bad mystery rooms.

Also, does taking the portal vs. defeating everyone on a floor make any difference?

I got your duping trick to work. The set up took some time, especially filling my inventory with 400 junk items (mostly fairy dust), but oh man, now that it works, I am like a kid in a candy store.

  • azith28azith28 Registered User regular
Yeah this trivilizes mana collection but levels still require statisticians. my valzy is about 450th level and desco about 400, my prism mage about 300 but all the other characters are still kinda weak. I'm tinkering with reverse pirating so i can try and get statisticians...only need a few then i can dupe them to max and leveling will be easier. Then i can start thinking about the deeper item worlds and stuff. I'm still only on post level 3 and ordeal 3 but they are kinda tough at my level.

It seems like with this getting 19998 of the main stats wouldn't be terrible, since you dupe, combine them into a bigger innocent, dupe that, repeat, and the growth rate of your innocent takes off in no time.

Oh, and dont go crazy increasing your skill levels now that you have a billion mana. I did that once to one of my characters and didnt pay attention that the SP cost was now so high he couldnt use the spell at all (until he gained a bunch of levels)

SP Orbs! Run through your highest level SP orb in the item world, then equip it in place of your armor on your freshly reincarnated duder. Makes that (temporary) problem go away.

E: Oh yeah, finally ran into a mystery room in the item world (on level 32 item I think?) that sold a plethora of tickets. Dimension X stuff is crazy. I went into 1-1 and had a hell of a time until I realized that I still had 15 bills of stronger enemies active....whoops.
