I just got it today.
Going to burn through some Scribblenaughts before I crack this puppy open.
I'm gonna be honest though, the ones that make you do math I suck at because I am retarded with numbers. Sometimes I honestly think I have Dyscalculia. The funny thing is that when I get to the end of some of those puzzles that piss me off, the answer was usually like "duh." I hate that feeling.
In regards to the storylines, I think it's a nice break from the normal. This game is very much a digital cup of tea, I sit down and enjoy the presentation.
And then there is the voice. I enjoy calm british accents.
So uh, I guess the english dub of the Layton movie came out a few days ago in UK? Stupid ingrates, this is what we get for saving your ass in WWII. :P
Anyone know if it's any good? Kinda wondering whether to import or just wait for a NA release. But the only difference would likely be Luke's voice, so it probably doesn't matter either way.

The movie is pretty good. I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles (which just isn't the same) and when/if the US version comes out, I'll definitely buy a copy. If they never release it in the US, I may eventually import the UK version.
It's basically a Layton game with all cutscenes and no gameplay (and four or five puzzles).

Sounds like what a Layton movie should be. Good to know.
just when Clive surfaces the war-machine and holy fuck how many people are dying?! I was seriously shocked at how fucking monstrous this is while in the background it was like silly evil genius shit. This is a fucking genocide!

I just got it from the UK yesterday. (It's probably never coming to the US.)
For people who have never gotten a DVD outside your region, remember the whole region coding thing! It wouldn't play on my PS2, so I downloaded a DVD player for my homebrew'd Wii which worked really well.
It is pretty good. Different Luke is annoying but you forget about it after a while. They didn't redo the girl's Japanese song into English which doesn't surprise me, it's not really a problem and it's subtitled anyway.
Towards the end it doesn't feel as much like Layton, some crazy stuff happens, though I guess they'd want a movie to feel more epic. And again, Layton accepts and expounds upon a pretty crazy "logical" explanation for things at the twist. Like, oh, magic exists, is that all. But whatever!
Personally I recommend it to Layton fans. I got the DVD/BR combo that also includes the full storyboard as a huge book which is really cool.

It is a foolish and silly movie with a plot that makes less sense that something that doesn't make any sense but has enough but it has enough totally awesome bits that can keep you going. I enjoyed it overall.
Layton 2 had the more ridiculous twist but somehow I liked the emotional climax better than 3's.

2 makes sort of sense even though it's a cop out and dumb
3 makes no fucking logical sense whatsoever, they violate the rules they've established in the world multiple times, and it's needlessly convoluted for the sake of being needlessly convoluted
Man that ending was harsh. Gave me a genuine emotional reaction though so they're doing something right with characterisation among all the zany nonsense. And the real villain escaped Scott free! I really hope Bill comes back in a future game to get his comeuppance. I can see why they're going back to prequels now though. It must be hard to move forward from a doomsday machine blasting a hole in the centre of the London.
Love, love, this series. It goes from strength to strength in my eyes.
Ending spoiler:
So what the hell was with the London Below residents? All criminals working for Clive/Dimitri? Actors? Kidnapped morons? I'm going to go with robots like in Curious Village because it's the only way it could almost make kinda sense. A mark of my love for all things Layton is how much huge unexplained plot holes like this exist yet I don't care one jot. Bring on the madness.
The only thing I thought was lacking in this iteration was the absence of a slam bang really cool puzzle at the end. I still remember the last puzzle in the second one.
Talk about unmemorable, I just beat it yesterday and I already forgot what it was.
Wow. They really went for it with the sliding block puzzles in the bonus section didn't they.

Oh neat, I must have kept missing this thread, as I got all 3 games in anticipation for the Phoenix Wright crossover, I'm currently on the second. Loved the first, enjoying the second even if the puzzles are really making me feel like an idiot this time around.
One question about Flora early on:
Does it ever get explained (I'm at Folsense) what she was doing before she snuck on the train? Layton obviously seemed to become her caretaker at the end of Curious Village, so was she just being left at home while Layton and Luke went on another adventure?
Just finished Unwound Future last night and something else is bothering me.
The Prime Minister got off with no more than a passive agressive statement from Chelmy! I know the death of Claire was an accident but Layton didn't even address him or give him a gentlemenly slap or anything. Layton saved his life, Hawkes could have at least apologized or showed some remorse. It would have taken two lines of dialogue...
Layton should have given him an impossible puzzle that would drive him insane for the rest of his life.
Anyway, I really loved this series, played all three in a row over the last month. I plan to watch the movie sometime this week. I agree the plots don't always make sense but they are still charming.

sorry, professor layton 3's storyline is inexcusably retarded on pretty much every level

Poor old Flora.
Seriously. Who ever thought the phrase
My only fear is how they will ever live up to this in the next game.
The next game is a crossover with Phoenix Wright.
Technically the next game is a prequel trilogy. They're already out in Japan. Hopefully they bring them here as well.
