So, I recently learned Reiki.
I had first learned of it reading Raymond E. Feist's "The Serpent War Saga," and was able to ask the author on an email list about it, back in 1997. Since then, I have asked people about it, and have wanted to learn it. 2009, I met a woman at my Tai Chi class who was a master, and eventually learned it.
So I am curious, what do you guys think of it?
My take on it all:
The human body produces an electrical charge (this is what heart monitors and EKG's pick up on when they are attached to your body). Since there is no hair on the palms of your hands, it is not dissipated when it reaches your hands. This natural "charge" is "trained" thru Reiki and it becomes a relaxing and healing effect on a person. It relaxes the person, removing stress. It can also stimulate the bodies tissues and organs into working effectively. Some people note that Reiki can perform almost miraculous healing.
Now, Reiki works "hands on," you lay your hands on the person. You can also make it work a few inches above the person, too. Apparently, you can also make it work thru the soles of your feet, your breath, and your eyes. At Reiki Level 2, you can send Reiki to a person not in visual sight. You can also, apparently, develop an ability to see auras, past lives, and even things like clarevoyance, clareaudience, a "sixth sense," and other things.
Reiki can be used on animals. Dogs who have been traumatized and rescued, can be calmed and made more sociable towards people. You can use it to "bless" food to make it more palatable and nutritious. It can be "turned on" when working on projects, crafts, job interviews, tests, etc, to make things work better, have a better outcome, that sort of thing.
I think Reiki works, and in fact, am ready to go back into the military knowing this (it will certainly help when the work and people gets overwhelming, and will also help in treating injuries). Soldiers learn Reiki and attribute it to helping them survive tough situations. I also find that doing Reiki to myself is equivalent to me taking a nap, I feel rested afterwards.
So, what do you guys think?

Someone come rub my belly and make all this cancer go away.
While you're at it, give me a hand-job so my dick will work again.
That was terrible.
This guy also heals people without touching them sometimes
Usually he just knocks down geriatrics, though.
or cocaine
Oh right, it's the name of a sword in Tenjo Tenge.
But reiki. just. yeah.
I really want to go see this guy live.
Play my cripple card, ask to be healed, then just stand there as he flicks his hands at me and does his voodoo.
now Im disappointed
It's on a similar level of discourse as Religion.
Some people will take an agnostic stance,
Who then might even give you the benefit of withholding a doubt
Most people will think you are bonkers
and there are the people who also are also practitioners,
who will agree wholeheartedly
I hope that sheds light on your question.
They used car batteries to channel energy into the testicles.
Alligator clips have quite a pinch.
Something like Reiki or energy working is too soft for them.
Reiki is like the question of God's existence, in that God might somehow be proven to exist using the scientific method but it will never be possible to prove he does not exist (using science). Since one the the answers to the question shows the weakness of hard science they have no interest in the question. They only like mysteries they can explore or solve with their favourite philosophy. They are prisoners to their own skills.
My gf's great grandmother (or great great aunt, i forget) was a Reiki user way back in the day, I was surprised to learn it was that old since I'd always figured it was just some new age regurgitation of older methods. Her whole family tree (like many in my area) were followers of the old religion who came to america before the revolution. Whenever I meet mystical or psychic people from around here I always ask about their ancestors and the same family names turn up over and over again.
Reiki never killed anyone unlike "medical science" so it holds some of the high ground. It might not help everyone or always work but if it helps some people then I see it as useful. Spending time intensely focused is good mental exercise if nothing else. It doesn't matter if it is the placebo effect or not, making someone feel better is the goal and doing it without side effects usually trumps anything a MD offers. Reiki first then other methods if still needed would be a moderate approach imo.
