So my brother-in-law was in New York for a week and we went to visit him, and he was pissed to see stores selling the 360 versin of FFXIII. He's from Hong Kong where they only sell the PS3 version. He only has a 360 and a Macbook. Assuming his Macbook meets the specs, would he be able to run FFXIII on the Windows side of it? Do they do any region locking on PC version?
Close enough to an rpg thread to ask, was the xenosaga series of games worth playing? I played a bit of episode I but quit and never picked it back up. After dusting off my PS2 I have a mad craving for old RPGs and wondering which ones would be worth my time.
The third game is fantastic and features a number of great (and obvious) references to Xenogears. The first two games are less good, and since the third title has a nice massive database to fill you in, I'd say it's not worth playing them.

Umm...do you mean FF14? FF13 was console only single player game. There is no PC version for it.
Really? I could swear I saw a PC version for sale somewhere. It's entirely possible that I was hallucinating though.
edit: An amazon search shows that I was indeed hallucinating, so he's SoL. On the plus side, it also showed this. Which has possibly the best cover ever.

Does the card game make a return to episode 3? I was addicted to that damn game.

No, 3 has this bizarre 3d lemmings type game for its minigame.
It's pretty addictive and I recall my wife coming out at like 5am a few nights in a row asking why I was still playing games.
Also...what card game? Do you mean the casino in 2? That's just poker.
I managed to screw my self at the end of 2. Got to a boss, had no extra saves, and was under leveled. Still haven't finished 2, though I bought 3 and can't remember much about it.
Supposedly the third is far and away the best. Just found a copy of it, I'm debating whether or not to bother finishing my save on the second, it's pretty forgettable compared to episode 1.
The minigames in episode 1 were all around pretty great, I thought. The ccg, the little Armored Core knockoff fighter, and was it blackjack? I just remember sinking way too much time into whatever the regular card game was.
See this is what happens when Snugglesworth does an FF thread.
First you get Tifa gushing.
Then you get off topic madness.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable Rydia fan art/fan fics!
Oh well, at least there are only a few more weeks until people get to experience the goofy as Shit Four Warriors of Light and a few months until they announce more FF games along with finally giving up more meat on Agito and Versus.
Because arguing back and forth which FF games were terrible was so much more interesting.
Don't get butthurt because someone used the Xeno word. If I was like that, I'd facepalm every time you posted in these threads.
Which I totally do not do.
Nope.
Wouldn't dream of it.
And on the subject, I still consider Episode I the best of the bunch, even with the lack of music and the 2 hour long cutscenes.
Episode II had a good share of problems, including a really short length (there's a reason they often call it "Xenosaga: Disc 2"), a worse battle system, and the incredibly retarded decision to replace half the voice cast, even though the initial VAs were damn near perfect.
Episode III tries to undo much of Episode II's revisions by getting back 3/4 of the voice cast, improving Episode I's battle system, and having what is probably the best soundtrack of the three. Unfortunately the story suffers from cutbacks (like Xenogears Disc 2, only more noticeable in my opinion), including some of the best characters (as in, anyone but Shion) reduced to the background, even during the most major of story revelations.
It also had what is probably the stupidest decision ever made by a main character, ever.
That said, if you buy all three episodes and consider it a 3 disc game (ala PS1 era and Lost Odyssey), it's certainly worth it.
I'm still saddened that what was one of the potentially greatest RPG settings had to get cut short by poor decisions and sales. I die a little inside every time I see KOS-MOS reduced to cameos in other games.
If we're talking about Xeno right now. I'm trying to get back to it but...........
Do the other charachters get more face time soon? I like a lot of the cast.
Because listening to Sion and her treating everyone like crap isn't really entertaining, especially when you feel the need to mental punch a female video game charachter.
I've been playing FFXII but I'm almost 40 hours in and just got to the part where
the emperor is murdered and larsa's brother takes throne
And seeing people with 100+ hour first play throughs scares me. The game is pretty fun and I think the story is top notch and engaging but be careful what you wish for I guess. There is so much shit to do I'm almost tempted to start running through the game at this point but I hear it can get pretty tough. I've also though about leveling up my other 3 party members but I can't even afford to gear them up and arghrgh I hate missing shit in rpgs.

First time playthrough can definitely *finish* the game in 50-60 hours without trouble. The people who hit 100 are grinding to beating the extra bosses and get all the loot and whatnot.
I was recently in the midst of navigating that awful crystal maze but I stopped enjoying it and my printer sucks so I can't print out a map of it. Maybe I'll just buy the guide off of Amazon one of these days and finally get all the espers.
Also, let's end the non-FF talk before a certain someone blows his own non-regenerating brains out.
So, FFV sure was a piece of shit, wasn't it?
At least until the GBA version fixed the translation.
Made me literally do a double take.
Snuggles you know I was kidding.
You're absolutely right on one thing though FF V PSX version is as close as you're going to get to an unplayable game from SE.
It has tons of bugs and the worst translation of that era. That's saying a lot. It was a chore to play through and it deletes memory cards and freezes more consistently than any PSX game I know.
FF VI on the PSX for all its problems (load times, terrible audio, slight graphical glitches on PS2 fast mode) is at least perfectly playable, just inferior to all other options.
I think I stopped playing V PSX after it became apparent that Faris would indeed be talking in pirate speak for the entire game, even after the coming out. Blech.
The Wolfman on
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
I've never finished the PSX version. I got up to Exdeath who blew me away and then my memory card got destroyed.
The one with the good IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX and Tactics save. The VIII and IX ones were complete, with max stats and all cards in VIII and a perfect treasure rating in IX.
I would hate FF V on the PSX even if it was a great translation like Advance was.
I'm still saddened that what was one of the potentially greatest RPG settings had to get cut short by poor decisions and sales. I die a little inside every time I see KOS-MOS reduced to cameos in other games.
So, can I just be That Guy and say that Xenosaga had one of the most ridiculous (and ridiculously bad) stories I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing.
So, can I just be That Guy and say that Xenosaga had one of the most ridiculous (and ridiculously bad) stories I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing.
You may.
I will go so far as to say I found the whole game boring, lacking a sense of life, fun, immersion and other words I cannot now come up with because I mainly remember the game taking place in awefully white corridors and my memories now turn a pristine white whenever I think about this series.
I understand I may very well be wrong about this. Just my opinion.
I didn't realize that the PSX version's translation was shit. I played about 1/3 - 1/2 of it before quitting due to being bored out of my mind with its bland story. Out of all the FF games I've played, V felt the least epic, especially since it was sandwiched between IV and VI, two games that were very large in scope.
How much better is FFVA?
EDIT: On Xenosaga, Episode I really picks up about halfway through. If you can make it past the
Cathedral Gnosis ship
, it gets a lot better. Episode II is a clusterfuck of mistakes and bad decisions. Haven't gotten around to playing III yet.

Xenosaga III is the only game in the series that almost lives up to Xenogears.
Not quite, but it's by far the best of the three. Great music, battle system, the works.
I"m actually running through FFVadvance right now, and having a blast in it. Still feel like having job ability +1 more is super limiting, but it's still fun. I like the setting, and it's got charming dialog.

People keeping saying Episode 1 had music, but I never noticed any.
I used to be such a lover of Squaresoft. They could do no wrong. Now they just push games that are more work than play and just not as fun or appealing to me.
Also, based on FF13 there is an inverse relationship of length of develop to quality. I mean, you walked down a Tube for how many hours?
Oh, and no plans to get a PSP anyway.
What the fuck is up with Versus and Agito though? That shit has been in development for how long?

Is Kain's EX mode from After Years or something? Looks pretty silly to be honest.

That's funny, as many times as I've played through Ep 1, I don't think I've ever played the card game.

I really should, cause I was enjoying the story.
