So I don't really care about being famous, I really just need a fan for my new room because it gets really hot in here. During the day I don't really mind it, but at night when I'm trying to sleep I like to be freezing. The room doesn't have a ceiling fan, I've thought about getting one and installing it but will that cool off my room enough or should I get a tower fan instead? And if I go the route of a tower fan, what is a good brand or style?
Thanks in advance!

In my experience, a ceiling fan will do a much better job. Second best would be a window fan.
Yea, I think I will get a ceiling fan; is there anything in particular I should look for when I buy one?

More expensive ones have remotes, which are handy if it's a big room. Otherwise just make sure it has a variable speed, and I prefer ones with lights as well.
If the switch the lightbox is connected to has a dimmer, it may cause issues, so bear that in mind. You may need to replace the dimmer with a standard switch for the fan to function properly.
Installation is one of those things that seems daunting if you've never done it, but you just follow the directions and you'll be fine. If you've ever installed a light fixture before, it's just a little more complicated to do a ceiling fan, but it's basically the same.
If it's you're first time, and you're like me, you'll get 90% done and realize you skipped an important step and will have to take the whole thing apart.

It seems obvious when you think about it, but make sure the light is LOWER than the fan blades. If the light is shining down through the blades it's like having a rotating strobe light on all the time, like in a bad restaurant.

We have a few in the house here, and I have one in my bedroom. They are amazingly powerful. Not too expensive either. I just leave mine on the floor and when it's really hot I aim it away from me and pump it up to the max.
If you are patient, check woot.com every day - sometimes they have the desk/surface units on sale for like $14.99 each.

I prefer the side-by-side window models like this one - I think that's actually the exact model I have.
- No wiring / install.
- Cheap but may need replaced after a few years - kinda difficult to clean in the grills.
- Fresh air from outdoors rather than moving around your existing air - which has been already pointed out to be a problem or else you wouldn't need a fan.
- Exhaust setting. Sometimes I make one on FRESH and one on EXHAUST to set up a good circulation.
- Doesn't look ugly as dicks up on your ceiling.
- No un-wiring in five years when you look up and say: "this is ugly as dicks"

But that's just me.

Not sure how practical it would be.
