My friend recently upgraded to a Xbox360 and he's passed his Halo green gem along to me. I did a search for titles that I should play and so far the only ones that are topping my list is Halo and its sequel.

Can you guys pop my xbox cherry with a must play list ? I'm open to realistic racing games, and any other genre with fantastic story lines. Thanks!

Morrowind - a massive, freeform RPG. I would call it the GTA of RPG's but that wouldn't do justice to the openness of this game. It's the game on Xbox.

World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 is a fantastic game if you like sports games. Though even if you don't, I personally find the soccer games a lot easier to get into.

Morrowind - Awesome RPG. So expansive, you'll play it for months.
Ninja Gaiden Black - So much fun, I have never cursed my TV so badly. It is a must-play. Seriously.
Conker's BFD - It's a N64 port, and it shows. But the single player has a great story and the multiplayer is pretty freakin' cool.
Forza Motorsport - most realistic racing sim on the XBox. Some even say it's better than Gran Turismo.

Prince of Persia and KOTOR were my favourites on the old Xbox.

Psychonauts - 3rd person platformer, great story, dialog, level design, etc.
Phantom Dust - 3rd person "card" battling game. It's hard to explain in one sentance, but a must have.

If you like platformers you can get the Prince of Persia series of games. There are also the older Splinter Cell games. For fighting games there are Soul Calibur 2 and DOA Ultimate in the 3d catagory and a bunch of 2d fighters.

Morrowind, Halo, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden...you know...in the entire time I had my xbox...I can't remember ever playing a different game than one of those on it. Wow. Oh wait, no. KOTOR1 and 2 were good. Really good.

If I were you, I'd just go to Gamefaqs.com and go to the Xbox page. They have a top 10 most looked at thing, and if any of the titles catch your attention, you can read pretty extensively on them through reviews, faqs, and the boards. You don't necessarily have to read spoilers, but the faqs will give you a good idea how the game works.

Bah! Ninja gaiden was too easy. If you just hold block for like the whole game, and move by rolling, and master your counter-attacks, normal and hard mode are yours.

Since when you get to chapter 13ish you're going to be back here...when you get to the ghost fish, equip your flail (You'll know what I'm talking about), and tap your x button enough to do 2-3 moves of the combo, but don't finish it because you'll leave yourself open. Focus, keep it up, and you'll get through. The fish are not infinite, and neither is anything else in the game to my knowledge. Fight it out. Kill every last enemy.

Man I love ninja gaiden...I'm gonna go play it right now.

The Splinter Cell games are excellent, too.
    Fable is another good one.
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is surprisingly good... just played this recently myself.
    Mech Assault 1 and 2
    Jade Empire
    Crimson Skies

I really liked the Legacy of Kain games. Only 2 of them are available on Xbox, but if you got a ps2 you can play the others. Plus Blood Omen 2 should be playable without the rest of the story as it's more of a side story.

IMO don't even bother with the Halos, they are incredibly boring and pretty bad FPS... To this day I cannot understand why people make such a big deal about them... They were not groundbreaking in any sense.

I don't think they were all that "groundbreaking" either. Doesn't make them any less fun though. I'll admit, the level design was kinda repetitive, but i still enjoyed them. If nothing else, just get them for the multiplayer.

I actually just had an Xbox handed down to me also. So far I have Fable, Phantom Dust and Ninja Gaiden Black. DEFINITELY pick up those. I've been on a search for more Xbox exclusive games as well (considering I have Gamecube and PS2 also). Next game i'm picking up is Crimson Skies. I've also heard Fusion Frenzy is good.

Sub question to this one: so when my friend gave me the Xbox he said it's been tempermental. I didn't care it was free. I notice that sometimes the Xbox doesn't want to read the game and says its dirty or unreadable. The discs are clean with no scratches though and or new games. After a few tries it'll work. Is the lens dirty? Should i get a lens cleaner?

Laser lens cleaners are the bane of my existence. I'm always getting calls from people who used them and want me to clean it manually because the cleaner made things worse. So from personal experience I'd say no.

Microsoft did have a problem with some drives installed in the original XBox. I believe they were manufactured by Thompson. These drives had the same personality that you are stating yours does. I cannot remember however if there was a replacement campaign or if Microsoft told sufferers to suck it.

Couldnt hurt. They only cost a few dollars anyways.

A quick google search turned up this. Might be helpful.

Yes, it was the Thompson dvd-roms. After a while they would stop reading discs and give DDE's during games. There was no official replacement campaign, even though MS acknowledged that the drives were bad. IIRC, if you had a 1st generation X-box with a thompson and it breaks within the warrantee time, MS would replace it with either an entirely new x-box or just the dvd-rom for free. Since it wasn't just the 1st production run of x-boxes that had the problems, a lot of people were excluded from the free replacement program.

I used to have a picture of all three of the different drives side by side so you could tell which one you had. I'll try to dig it up.
