Yeah I generally make zealots first and have them waiting near his cliff if it happens to be more than 4 I need to put up there.

Really though, I rarely find people rushing me with 1 VR. Usually they go for the more conservative 3 VR attack, although I guess the differences wouldn't matter much for dropping Zealots on them.

The 1.1 patch began to address balance issues within Starcraft II. The changes seemed small – mostly changes to build times. But the community seems convinced that Starcraft II isn’t balanced yet, in particular, there’s a sense that the Zerg are underpowered. How do Blizzard respond?

“You can go up and read on the forums at any one time and there are a bunch of different theories about balance and imbalance. We’re being very cautious about making large swinging changes right now because at the highest level things are actually very strong.

hahaha there is like 1 zerg left in the GSL and they're doing horribly at the top of the ladder, what more proof does this guy possibly want?

Do you really think that one tourney proves that patch 1.1 doesn't do enough, when most of the zerg were knocked out before the patch even happened?

It takes time for the changes in a patch to properly be assimilated into people's gameplay, particularly when not a lot of people are playing the race right now. I imagine blizzard is actually keeping track of how high level games are playing out post-patch in ladder with zerg, as opposed to just, say, counting how many of each race are represented in the top 20 of the ladder and declaring 'imba.'

Damned right blizzard is good to take things slow and wait to see how things pan out before deciding they didn't do enough.
Also, the community is full of fucking idiots. Thank god the TL guys aren't in charge of balance. We'd get a patch every 4 days and we'd never have any fucking idea who was overpowered or not.

Yeah, I don't understand anyone who is upset with Blizzard doing things slowly - game balance (especially with three unique sides) isn't something that you want to do quickly or in large steps. It needs to be gradual in order to truly understand it.

Anyone else remember the giant, sweeping, going-to-fix-balance-all-in-one-fell-swoop patches that Relic did with DoW 2?

Yeah, those just resulted in the game becoming progressively more imbalanced until a couple races were mind-numbingly OP, one was meh, and one was almost impossible to win with.

Balance needs to be done slowly, in small steps and increments, with time in between, because it's hard to tell how much impact a change will actually have; internal testing can't come even close to the scope and depth you get when a patch goes live.

Blizz is doing this the smart way. Small changes, a few at a time, with time in between to see the state of the game. It seems slow now, but ultimately it will result in a much more balanced final product, and that balance will be reached more rapidly than if giant changes were constantly made.

Having trouble against Protoss/Zerg anyone have some advice?
Basically carriers or brood lords are instant death for me. I have no way to deal with them, I have 0 micro and it's usually GG when they arrive (even if I have vikings/thors/marine ball out I end up getting hammered).

Protoss proxy gates, even with a wall off I rarely have enough marines out in time to hold a very early push. I always forget to pull SCVs to repair and lose 100% of the time.

Is there some basic counter to these plays that I'm missing?

Ok, remember when tanks were too weak and people didn't like using them so they gave them a little more health but then they became a bit too powerful so they modified their damage?

Do you want a letter of apology to go along with each of their balance changes or something? I don't get what you're complaining about.

The idea is that you are gutting their production with the 4-5 zealots while you keep your Stalkers at home for if they decide to rush over.

Otherwise 1 VR is not going to kill your Zealots before they gut his mineral line or take down his pylons if it does happen to pop out. And if you have Warpgate researched by then, you could even warp in Stalkers into his base to cover for the VR if you really felt like it.

Mostly though the idea is to hopefully totally gut his workers and GG, or at least severely cripple his economy or food while you then build up the killing blow attack shortly after.

You're acting as if all he'll have is the voidray out. You can certainly have a few zealots along with the voidray. So your zealot drop isn't exactly going to win the game outright. Will it help, perhaps.

You're pretty much agreeing with me. I'm saying that the "wall off and mass VRs off 2 Stargates" idea is a separate thing from the "I build some VRs but otherwise am playing normally" idea. The latter is more difficult to pull off, which is why people probably see the former more often.

    Gotcha. Sorry for the misunderstanding!
Civility cannot solve this. Only a Grudge Match can!

(I'm joking and way too tired)

I love a good grudge match. Be happy to. We will send our lolrays at one another until the other is nothing but a smoldering husk.

Also you mentioned something else cool:
edit: there was a PvT build I saw on the TL forums where you go Void Ray/Stalker in order to break his wall, using the VRs as vision for the Stalkers.

This would probably work even better with phoenixes. And if you could somehow squeeze an Immortal in there...

why? Do you miss spawn larva that often to make this a game changer?

what zerg probably needs is SOME early game help, but I'm a pretty bad player, so I don't actually know what might work.
hydras t1.5 again would probably be insanely strong when you have banelings, too
    more range for roaches?

Edit: I do think 1.1 needs to be given some time

Blizzard has SOME experience with balancing an RTS similar to this, I think
They probably know what they are doing

Everyone misses spawn larva, it just happens because no one spends 100% of their time babysitting their queens. When you get to 3+ bases you are going to miss a lot of larva

You know your zerg much better than I do. Depending on how big any 1.1 imbalances play out, a button like this might be the missing bit to balance... But I don't really know. It seems like a very small change, even when small changes are concerned

Can someone give some advice for a new player outside of the stuff in the OP? I understand the ideas of macro and micro, and to keep building collectors, ect., but I still feel like I'm just scrambling when I'm playing and I'm only running about 1/3 of my games in bronze league. I've only been playing Terran, since I'm familiar with them from the campaign.

I need stuff like build orders, general macro advice, ect. Like, is there a way to see how many SCV's you have mining or gassing on a given mineral patch or geyser? Build orders especially...just, where the hell do I go from here? It fucking blows to just get rolled constantly.
