Dead Rising 2 is the sequel to Capcom's 2006 action-adventure, survival horror video game Dead Rising. It has been developed by Blue Castle Games in partnership with Capcom, and features a new protagonist, Chuck Greene, and all new gameplay mechanics. Multiplayer competitive and co-operative modes are a first for the series, and players can also combine and craft unique weapons at various maintenance rooms throughout the map.

Multiplayer
Information on gameplay modes, taken from Wikipedia:
During the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed that the multiplayer of Dead Rising 2 takes the form of a reality TV show called "Terror Is Reality" in which players will act as contestants in a fictional gameshow. Up to four players can participate in multiplayer, competing against each other for the most kills inside an arena full of undead. Players will be able to use weapons and vehicles including human-sized hamster balls and chainsaw-equipped motorcycles. They also will be able to prevent other players from scoring by using various forms of "dirty" tactics.
It was confirmed during Captivate '10 that cooperative gameplay for the story campaign will be available and according to Blue Castle Games there will be an online co-op mode. Both players will play as the main character, Chuck Greene, and will be able to earn experience and keep the items they collected throughout the game—but only the host player will be able to save the game's progress. A host can invite a friend to join the current game by sending out an invitation; if the friend accepts, a confirmation icon will be displayed and the host can allow the player to join in. Non-host players can drop in/out of a co-op game anytime they like. When the players become separated, a tiny animated Chuck Greene icon will appear at the bottom of the game screen. The icon will show what the other player is up to—attacking, being assaulted by zombies, etc. If a player is taken down by zombies, he will be able to call the other for help to revive them. The player will use food to revive the dying partner before his health runs out.
If you'd like your name added to the multiplayer lists, send me a private message or post in the thread and I'll get you added as quickly as possible.

Tips & Tricks
If you're Player 2 in a co-operative game, you can take your experience and money earned back into to your single-player/story save without losing story progression. Choosing to overwrite a single-player/story save with a co-operative one
will not overwrite your story progression! It will only update that save with your new experience and money!
Money farming, courtesy of Hung Bunny:
Get these three magazines:
Gambling 1 - significant increase when gambling - Royal Flush Plaza, Ragazines
Gambling 2 - significant increase when gambling - Palisades mall, Stan's Large Print Books and Magazines
Gambling 3 - significant increase when gambling - Silver Strip, Shamrock Casino
Then keep playing the large slot machine in Slot Ranch Casino. It's next to the passageway that leads to the food court. You'll be rolling in money.
Zombrex Locations:
1. You'll get you first as part of an early quest in Roy's Mart Pharmacy.
2. In the Yucatan Casino, in the middle of the room, is a large gambling display. It's the largest object in the room. You can climb up the sides on to a platform. A box of Zombrex will be up top, as well as a light machine gun.
3. If you complete the event "Code Blue", located in the One Little Duck Bingo store on the Silver Strip, the paramedic you save will give you a box of Zombrex.
4. If you go to the casino to the right of where you leave the safe room, there will be a BBQ restaurant. If you go to its second floor, after you climb onto the balcony you can start jumping from light to light. This will lead you to a place where you can pick up some Zombrex.
5. There is a Zombrex in the SE bend of the underground tunnels. If you're are heading out of the doors into the tunnels, hang a right, and it should be on the ground after a bit of walking.
6. In the Americana Casino, there is a stage flanked by the hands of the Statue of Liberty. If you go backstage, there are boxes you can climb on top of and then a platform you can jump to where a box of Zombrex is lying.
7. You can buy some from the pawn shops, although the price should increase for each subsequent one you wish to purchase (first one costs 25K, second one 50K, etc).
Toys that you can give to Katey:
Giant stuffed donkey
Giant stuffed bull
Giant stuffed bunny
Giant stuffed elephant
Robot bear
Water gun
Bag of marbles
Pony-stick
Snowflake (the tiger from the fight with the psychopath)
Funny painting (from the Art Appreciation mission)
Beach ball
Taming Snowflake:
In the room where you first encounter Snowflake, there are a number of steaks (as well as some in the restaurant in the casino) lying around. When you see her, drop or throw a steak toward her and back far enough away. Do not attack her at all during the fight. She should stop and start eating the steak. If you get her to do this three times, you'll tame her and you can give her to Katey as a pet.

How to defeat certain psychopaths:
Member of C.U.R.E. in the bathroom (courtesy of Garris) - Run in there with the weapon of your choice and some OJ, beat on him, and when you get low on health run back out of the bathroom to the BBQ place down the hall, grab burgers and ribs, run back and wail on him some more. Rinse and repeat. For a co-operative strategy, the player that attacks the psychopath will draw the attention of the psychopath. In other words, one player attacks, then other player attacks the psychopaths back, and rinse and repeat.
Leon, man on the motorcycle (courtesy of Garris) - Basically, I had three survivors with fire axes and I a shotgun and a mercenary gun. Out in the palisade where you can go up the steps to a big circular area is a giant hamster ball on a platform. Hop up on the platform, and the guy will barrel towards you and taunt you. Your survivors will run over and attack him, while you shoot at him with head shots. You can also cause him to crash into objects such as walls or fences, leaving him stunned for a few seconds and allowing you to easily attack him with melee or other weapons.
Slappy (courtesy of Professor Snugglesworth)- This psychopath will show up during or after a case involving the theft of casino vaults. You will have to fight a lot of mercenaries during that case. Pick up their assault rifles, at least five or six and potentially the LMG in the Yucatan Casino, as well, and head to the psychopath. When the actual fight starts, run inside the toy store and to the corner with the wall that's just behind the baby crib. Snappy will shoot at you but he should miss every single time, and from this position you can shoot him until he dies.

The Dead Rising formula proves to be as addictive as ever, and a new cooperative mode and weapon crafting system are great additions to the franchise."

8/10 - "
Watching Chuck get covered in blood as he slays thousands of zombies, changing outfits so that one minute you’re in a toddler clothes with a LEGO head and the next you’re in a sundress, and listening to completely whacked out boss stories – that’s what I remember about Dead Rising 2. Any issue the game might have just falls to the backburner."
1up -
B+ - "
Ultimately, sure, Dead Rising 2 has annoying technical flaws and uninteresting boss battles. But the ability to jump into a friend's game while wearing a Borat-inspired mankini and a Servbot helmet with a lawnmower blade strapped on top help you quickly forget those problems."
Playstation LifeStyle -
8/10 - "
Dead Rising 2 is extremely fun and at the same time very satisfying, but it is riddled with minor setbacks such as lackluster visuals and the exasperating save system. The cooperative and competitive online multiplayer modes adds a new dimension and plenty of replayability to the game. The game’s dark humor is also a plus. Despite the occasional hiccups players may encounter, Dead Rising 2 will keep players extremely busy since the game’s impressive breadth paired with the sheer satisfaction of splitting zombies makes this game worth the fee of admission alone."

I'm not far in but I haven't seen any equivalent of the convicts so far. Hell haven't seen any references to the first game.
That's a good idea! Just send or post that information, guys, and I'll put it in the OP.

I'm sorry, I didn't see your post and no one else seemed interested in putting one up, so I quickly mashed this together.
We can always ask to have this one locked if you'd like to do your own thread. I know I hated it when someone took the Dragon Age thread away from me. It was my baby! :P
Keep it, I ask no more than a small offering.
EDIT: I never bother restarting, if I screw up it's just an excuse to spend more time exploring and leveling up, plus I get to see the different endings.
Also, is it just me or is the story more serious than the first game? I'm only on day one, though, so maybe things get classic Dead Rising cheesy later.
I would honestly recommend just carrying on. If nothing else to get the lay of the land in your head a bit, make mental notes of good weapon / weapon combo items locations and level up some.
Klyka and I did coop until we were around lvl 30 before we started the case files. Unfortunately the drop connection when the host saves bug that seems to be going around meant we didn't get the achievement for completing all case files in coop. I think we can get around that though by only saving in bathrooms between case files.

I was saddened when I crept closer and closer to not having any more combos to find.

I agree, it feels so satisfying to have a guess at what you could combine and have it work. Oh, by the way, I'm having to re-play the entire story to grab a special weapon near the end of the game so I can combine it with another item so I can get the 'made all weapons' achivement. When you find a quite unorhtodox gun near the end of the game, make sure to experiment with it then and there to figure out the combo. It was revealed to me as a combo card at around level 42 to me but I had restarted by then
OMG YEEEEEEEEEEEES
Don't have my copy yet (grr, 30 min drive before I get home) but I assume it's just your level and whatever combo cards you obtained. I am curious if the excess PP carried over though - I know Case Zero gets you like 99% of the way to level 6 before it caps you.
I played this a long time ago and didnt like the time constrictions, but I wanted to give it another shot, and probably pick up stuff like the full MegaMan suit and the Laser Sword, but I have trouble finding a helpful guide.
I'd love to add a tips section to the OP, too, for things like zombrex locations, outfits and unlockables and item combos, etc.
level, combo cards and money, i think the pp is capped at the level you got to on import tho.
annoying thing happens when you rescue a certain survivor..
also playing poker makes no sense, then again i don't know the rules and lost everything.
are there hidden zombrex locations?
This sounds like a lesson for life. Love your kids, kick everyone else's ass.
Almost happened to me. But I went early because I remembered that some cases in the first game did the exact same thing. Its just hard to guess which.Having a blast so far . Just came back from escorting another batch of survivors.Feel the time limit squeeze! The tension is awful but at the same time awesome.

There are several listed on gamefaqs. But looking over the list they are all in real out of the way places.

I will be on and off all night. I ran out of time for a case file early on. I just finished a case and then I figured I was done with it and the game was counting down to when I can go to the next case. Apparently is was the same case and it was never finished. Now I am just going to fuck around and level up and save people. Meh.
