I need someone to take this iron, because I'm tempted to try and sell it in the wards now that they're useful. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe I have at least 3 stacks of limonite, iron, and iron dust.

I may take that off your hands... I WILL take it off your hands if you have fire crystals to go alongside it (smelting = OM NOM NOM NOM).

Probably gonna spend a good chunk of time smelting iron tonight since I've got a crapton of limonite and sand, myself... But we'll always need more, so...

I HQed my own personal attempt at straps (I have x24 reserved for Shim) so I've got 14 more you can count on. But I don't think we have that many MRDs. The tough part will be the Storm Axe upgrade which will require a whole circle of Oxblood-red Leather, I have 3 of those available atm, but I can make some more at about 25% success.

Oh oh me me! I'm a MRD! Though I'm having a hard time finding things that I can kill that aren't blue right now. I think I'm going to have to leave Grid again. I just can't get decent skillup there without slowly grinding through the local squirrel population. Some wolves con yellow, but they are both deceptively hard and I have to be really careful to not aggro a second one.

I should say that I also already have a Spiked Bronze Labrys from Shim, so I really should be last on the list for getting one of the Storm Axes. Considering that they're one whole rank higher, and, for all intents and purposes, I'll probably prefer the Labrys for it's 4 extra accuracy. I'm already having trouble with missing a good number of attacks.

Speaking of which, anyone got copper rings laying around? Or, I'll trade a stack of copper ore, a fire crystal, and 8 fire and wind shards to anyone willing to make them from scratch. You get to keep the extra copper.

Need clarification on which type of copper rings you are looking for. If you mean the accessory then I can whip some up for you very easily (Actually I'll make you the brass version for free) If you mean the copper rings material for synthing, then I think it's an armorer synth but it should only be rank 5 so it should be pretty easy for any ASM to make for you.

I already have 4 of the brass ones from you Delph, but I'm still 5 ranks below them. I suppose I can just wait... I expect that to only be 2 ranks or so by the end of tomorrow.

erm-- I am using YG. That's how I find recipes. But for example, Sheepskin Leggings require materials that require materials that require materials, some of which show up multiple times down the chain. I've got pages of notes in front of me right now, desperately trying to figure out how much of each item I need so I can craft up to these damn shoes. I just can't seem to keep it organized at all.

For most games, all I have to do is keep a random piece of scrap paper nearby. But I agree with everyone, this game seems to require a dedicated notebook of paper just to try to play the game.

It's not like I mind the need to keep notes, lots of engaging games warrant keeping notes. It's just after so many layers of redundancy in materials, it gets really difficult for me to keep track.

I have a notebook next to the computer. I list mats and indent until I get to base mats, like this:

    COTTON TUNIC E6
    • *Cotton Tunic Front x1 E5W3
      [**] *C. Cloth x1
      [***] *C. Yarn x3
      [**] *C. Yarn x1
      [**] *Bronze Buckle x1
    • *C. Tunic Back E5W3
      [**] *C. Cloth x1
      [***] *C. Yarn x3
      [**] *C. Yarn x1
    • *H. Hood (Beige) x1 E4W2
      [**] *Sand Beige H. Cloth x2
      [**] *H. Yarn x1
    • *B. Leather Strap (ochre) x1
    • *C. Yarn x1
E5W3 is 5 earth shards and 3 wind shards. I don't actually break down stuff I have memorized (like yarn/cloth) or things I can't make myself (like buckles). It's a little bit cumbersome, but it's easier for me then tabbing back and forth. I guess I should add a 2nd monitor...

EDIT - well, it doesn't look like that, but I'm sure you get the point.

It's super-easy to get in over your head, so I get where you're coming from... but I kinda love it. In a way, it's a method of bringing some small bit of real-world skill into play. Sure, someone may have better crafting gear than me or a higher rank or whatever, but if I have better organizational skills, I have some small leg up on him/her (or at least, that's what I like to tell myself :)

But anyway, I just keep my iphone handy with multiple tabs of YG open and flip back and forth just like most everyone else. I've been tempted to grab a pen and paper, too, but haven't quite gone so far. What I've found, though, is that as you progress, you start to just remember stuff. Bronze Nugs are 3 copper ore + 1 tin ore, gives 12. 5 Nugs = 1 Ingot. Etc, etc... Once you start remembering the building blocks like that, the rest of the stuff gets easier.

Also, when you're making something big and complicated... rely on us. I was making a Chocobotail Saw last night. I have the CRP skill to have done the handle, but I knew it was a complex, high-mat synth and I just didn't feel like following the rabbit hole to figure it out (I did that once when I made my own, I don't wanna do it again). So I asked for a CRP to help me out (well, I specifically asked Passive Fist because (a) he's awesome, (b) I knew he's a higher-level CRP, and (c) I knew he was on... if you don't know of someone specifically to ask, just put it out there in the LS, we're happy to help :) So then I could focus on gathering/making the rest of the mats that were of simpler origin while Passive hooked me right up. End result? Bam. Chocobotail Saw with little-to-no headache.

SE's goal with the crafting system appears to be to drive community interaction, and I gotta say, on that front, they succeeded spectacularly... Normally I'm all "SOLO SOLO SOLO!!" in my games, but crafting with everyone here has gotta be some of the most fun I've had in any MMO.

Just an FYI if you are even considering leveling multiple DoH jobs (hurf blurf hand jobs) to any appreciable degree, you can expect to spend many hours to go from r12 to r15, and many more hours to go from r20 to r22.

This is just from the actual time it takes to synthesize. Not just collect materials and crystals. The actual button pressing experience of item production.

Be prepared to flush hours down the drain for little reward because specialists will blow past you.

    I WANT.

Also, someone else asked about working on multiple crafts at once.

It's nice for being able to make some of the other subcomponents.
But it sucks when other people are r25-r30 in a craft and I'm stuck at weaving r15 and can't make nearly as cool stuff out of it.

But the easiest way if you do want to do this is just switch leves in one city. Grab your main, then when that's out, get other ones... I usually do weaving -> alchemy -> whatever else.

I do the same with battle leves and then fieldcraft leve.

Just had an interesting talk with a cook about food, and he said that he's found a lot of the buffs are actually percentage based. He did extensive testing on Dark Pretzels, for example, which are on this list as +5 DEF, +5 HP, but what he found was that they increase both by a standard 3.5% across class and race. If that's the case, I feel a lot better about cooking. My guess is this list has the effects right but not the buffs, and that as the food rank increases, the percentage is going to increase.

    Attention TAN:

I have hundreds of dyes available for the taking. Crystals/shards are appreciated in exchange but not required. The dyes are "free." But also first come first serve. I have the following:

    Taupe (sheep): 132
    Midnight-black (dodo): 348
    Oxblood-red (buffalo): 24
    Desert-yellow (buffalo): 24

I will hold them for a week from today and then they go up in my bazaar. You may still get them for free once they are in my bazaar but you may not beat the pubbies to them.

Have they mentioned when it will be possible to get additional retainers at all? I get far too distracted trying to level every crafting job and right now my retainer has like 30 stacks of random nuggets (iron/silver/brass/bronze) and ten stacks of cotton thread, but I see how many there are and it demoralizes me and then I use none of it. I need a retainer named Nugget is what I'm trying to say.

For fellow alchemists on here trying to figure out what to grind in mid-20s, I highly recommend just heading to cassiopeas hollow or whatever it is directly south of bloodshore and kill the cassiopeas (jellyfish). They drop like 1-3 cnidas per kill and lots of umbrellas, which are used for paralyzing powder (used for paralyzing potions) and jellyfish humours respectively. Both use very low amounts of shards which is a big plus, and 6 cnidas gives you 5 synths of skillups.

They haven't explicitly mentioned it yet (to my knowledge, at least), but the prevailing wisdom is that it'll be when they start charging us (since they have to charge for the extra retainer and they for whatever reason don't want to charge JUST for the extra retainer while in the midst of not charging for the main service). Now, how the extension's going to affect that is anyone's guess... I'm gonna be a little put out if they make us wait another 30 days to get more storage, and I'm not even 100% certain that I'll even opt for it; I can't imagine how the rest of you guys who're already sold on extra retainers would take that...

Looks like that's gonna be a bit of a stretch. So far as I know, BLM's our highest Carpenter, and according to Lodestone, he's only r19. I suppose with the right gear, the right food, Master buff, and no crazy moon shit, he could probably pull it off, but... :\

Then again, we may very well have a secret Carpenter hanging around who could ninja in and whip that up for ya ;)

Pretty sure Peda is around 22-23 ish. He should be able to succeed on that synth as well.

Shit, Jodaddy is r27! I'll be hitting him up. Is yew lumber hard to come by?

I have a leve for undyed canvas. Only tried one synth so far and I got it to 100% complete but hit 0 durability so it went boom. I'm weaver r21 now, but I should hit r22 tonight, and I think undyed canvas will be possible for me with a somewhat high failure rate. I'll try the rest of the leve when I hit 22 and report the results. I know there are other sources out there, but I'm willing to try it for anyone that needs some.

You will be able to make canvas cloth but as you mentioned it won't be a very nice success rate. I'd estimate it is around a 25-30% chance to succeed given the attempts I made at 21.

Speaking of canvas I was really happy when last night one of the battle leves had the pink canvas hat as a reward, that thing is super amazing looking. Now I need it to give a pink robe and some pink pants as rewards too.

Pretty sure there's a screenshot of Riesz wearing the outfit you want in the other thread

Can any of our Carpenters make me a Budding Maple Wand?
I can provide my maple wand (probably needs to be repaired first) and shards/crystals.

That new guy Jodaddy Whitefang is level 27 or 28, but I haven't seen him in a few days.

Jodaddy is a cool guy and i am sure he would be glad to help.

Oh I saw it and it's pretty outstanding looking. I'd rather it was the blue canvas instead since it looks better, but from what I've seen so far all the leve rewards for canvas hat and pants have been pink.

On another note I got armorer 10-15 last night and can finally repair all my own stuff for all my classes, plus hit physical level 40 in the process. I was happy about 40 until I found out that this one dude on our server is 49 already.
