Xbox 360 Play and Charge batteries

So I have 2 controllers, 3 play and charge batteries (2 of them off-brand), the official cable and a third party wall charger. No combination of these items seems to result in a working controller. I've just gone back to rechargeable AAs, but was wondering what the problem was here.

The off brand batteries didn't see a lot of use, but there was a span of 2-3 months where I was busy and didn't touch the 360, or only using it with the cable plugged in. Is this something like the LaCrosse charger, where it has trouble charging an empty battery, and you have to use a cheap, dumb charger to get it started? If so, is there any way to get the play and charge things working again?

Does the wall charger show that the battery packs are fully charged? Mine has a green light if they are full and a red light if they are charging.

i have this problem often when i dont use my xbox for a while
    they wont charge

when you plug it in the light goes from red to green very shortly
what you have to do is every time the light turns from red to green on the play and charge cable, you unplug it and plug it back in so its red again
you keep doing this until it starts to be red all the time, and thus it is properly charging

    it'll work

hmmm maybe I should do that. I bought a Play and Charge kit for my 360 last October and after a couple months of intermittent play the battery stopped charging. Thanks Shaz. This thread helps everyone!

yeah, it's basically that the battery got so drained that it won't hold a charge/won't charge, so you have to force the charge into it enough so that it will actually charge properly
    and then it will work

(or something like that, dunno the physics of it)

I made a quick video tutorial on how to fix those xbox battery packs that have been dead for a while.

Sometimes doing it twice works well.
