Speaking of phoenixes, why did Blizzard decide to take a big steaming crap on Graviton Beam in the latest patch? It was far from overpowered before, and now it just takes an unpleasant amount of micro to get any use out of it.
I'm sooooo tired of protoss warping shit in my base shenanigans. This time it was first pylon outside the base on Xel'Naga caverns, then a Gateway inside, followed by a forge. As expected, I'm forced to pull four SCVs per warp-in to kill them, and as expected, he cancels them just before completion.
And of course, because he's now got this huge mineral surplus, there is absolutely no way for me to punish him, because he remakes them in his base, and gets a cannon or two up in a wall off at his ramp.
He then smartly canceled two building stargates when I scanned them and went 4 gate chargelots. That's it. Nothing else. I overreacted to the potential for VRs, and then misinterpreted the mass zealots as not being his whole army. I figured "Where's the gas going to? He must have something!" Nope, just zealots. And I didn't macro up enough ground forces.
I just loathe that shit. For the price of a pylon, and delayed buildings, he can completely throw me off my build, and pull nearly all my SCVs off mining for 30 - 40 seconds. If I don't respond, he can proxy my face in. I cannot think of any drawback to opening that way. There's no way to muster enough pressure fast enough to punish him for it if I see it, even on short maps.
im pretty terribad at fighting off proxies also and i dont know what the proper way is actually.
if im toss, i immediately make a forge and make 1 or maybe 2 cannons. i dont pull off probies unless his z comes out and starts attacking my cannon which is warping in.
if im terran, i usually die or make a bunker close to my cc and block off with structures. putting a marauder in there means that you can actually outdistance cannons (i think). then i go reapers and try to harass his main.
Hm. I don't know what the hell's wrong with B.Net, but I'm going to keep trying to play. I've played three matches now, and two of them ended abruptly (and when I wasn't winning decisively) with VICTORY! messages. Got points and credit for them, so... I guess B.Net is kicking people all over the place?
Edit: Aaand I guess that's it for the night. Got kicked from B.Net and can't log back in. Oh well - I did indeed get credit for the two opponent-drop wins! Maybe my opponent did, as well - I wonder.
I was trying mutas to combat void rays because while I've had success with hydras in the past, they're so slow I have to give up map control and at that point I end up getting out-econ'd and overrun.
I'll have to practice building enough hydras to defend, but not so many that a single collosus kills me.
Ketherial's suggestion of infestors was a good one. I never build those enough. Fungaling the VRs to take away their mobility should help my problems a lot.
Fungaling voids is nice, even if you're not looking to keep them from escaping, because you can get them in a situation where they're fighting your hydras straight up, but only like half of them are able to shoot.
In one of the games, held off a ridiculously huge T1 push with good choke management and a single PF. 67 kills for the Fortress alone on it. Then help arrived in the form of Exo's Muta's to clean up the stragglers that snuck by.
you basically need to kill one, then the rest charge up to second level, then you FLEEEEE
are muties armored? i thought they werent, and were a pretty good counter to VRs. Although, getting enough by the time a hardcore VR Rusher is in your base should be challenging.
So I got beaten by someone floating their CC into my base and morphing it into a PF...that was embarrassing. Luckily it wasn't on Day9. Anyways, what's the best way with dealing with a lot of Ultralisks (as Protoss)?
P.S. I think my name on the forums would definitely be a pokemon, but my name in Starcraft 2 (Topp) would be a really shitty drug or something of that nature.
EDIT: Aren't corruptors pretty good against VRs? Not that you can get them out quickly, but there really isn't a whole you can do against charged up voids.

Immortals murder ultralisks. Zealots can tank them pretty well, but mind the banelings.

they are light. but charged rays still do a lot of damage to non-armored when charged
Yeh, but its not the 50/hit that armored take, its only 15. If you have a gaggle of muties, you should be able to put the VRs down, but, as was said upthread, unless you were going right for muties, you arent going to have enough of them.

NO. armored against VRs is asking to be destroyed.
According to the math at TeamLiquid, your placement matches are really more than 5 matches long. It evaluates you after the first 5, but then it does it again after you've lost 7 times or something like that. Anyways, you should probably cheese on the first 5. Jus' sayin'.

Well, the thing is, I've played less than 30 games of Starcraft. Ever.
If I successfully got to a point where I COULD cheese, I'd be ecstatic.
corrupters are an all around bad unit. I wish broodlords morphed from mutas.
They work great against massive. Does what it says on the side of the box. They're really one-dimensional, though.
They used to turn enemies into infested turrets, but that was way too cool so instead they gooped buildings, but that was still kinda neat sometimes so instead they got this horrible Warcraft 3 reject of a spell.
Kami, do your placements! It's stressful to think about, but I mean, who cares what happens? Have fun with it and do your best. In other news, I've been frequently following this thread but have yet to post. I think, thanks to some of your suggestions, posted videos, and practice, that I'm finally getting better! I started SC2 as a Void Ray rusher, since that strategy worked on me like three times during my placements, but in recent weeks I've started scouting and adapting and really trying to play better and read every situation. It's great! I'm loving this. Trying to get better at 2v2 Terran, now that I've had some Protoss success... but I don't know that I will ever be comfortable with Zerg...

there would have to be some serious creep going on tho.
i think you guys should just all 6 pool and win 1000 games in a row.
and again, this is the reason they should not match arranged teams against random teams.
good lord, if its letting you redo placement matches, i should relog in :-)

so far, ive been doing okay.
Well, yeah, we could do that and win, but winning isn't the only thing that matters in this case.
We gotta do it with STYLE! or Day9 won't even consider our replay.

I love terrans, have since BW, but man toss has some really cool units in sc2, and I love the warp in mechanic.
Zerg I also like, but I miss lurkers and suck at managing larva.

and I would never use mutas to counter a void ray rusher, it takes way too long unless you were going straight for it anyways.
