I bought me a new computer some time around Christmas with a combination of money I had been saving up and money given to me for the holidays by generous friends and relatives. For the most part it does everything I ask of it like a good obedient machine, with the exception of this one problem: random events in World of Warcraft will cause my screen to go blank.
Most often this will happen a few seconds after I log on, although it may also be triggered by targeting someone or interacting with an NPC. From there I'll be able to do everything as normal, in and out of the game, I just can't bloody see anything. Short of restarting there is nothing I can do to fix this. Some times it will go for weeks without doing this, sometimes it will happen several times in a day.
I'm really not very tech savvy so I'm not sure exactly which details are relevant here.
Like Robaal said, WoW is incredibly picky about 3D drivers, so start there.
Beyond drivers, have you played any other 3D games or used any other memory intensive software? It could be that you have some bad RAM or a bad 3D chip, and doing these things pushes your computer to use the bad RAM. Try running memtest86 and see if it turns anything up.

Try updating your video card drivers; the video card manufacturer's don't always offer the newest ones, so go straight to the nVIDIA or ATI website.
