TV + Headphones

So I have headphones, I have a TV. I'd like to use the two in combination to Rockband more quietly so the missus can sleep.

The TV is a Samsung LN408540.

I've tried just plugging the jack in to presumably the appropriate spot but no luck.

I picked these up per a H/A thread I started for the same issue and they work awesome.

    Two notes though:
-If price is an issue, they have a cheaper wired version, but they don't tell you how long the cord is so that was a non-starter.
-It eats batteries like a motherfucking champ, so you'll want at least 2 sets of AAA rechargeable batteries/

I should clarify I am not spending a hundred dollars on anything.

Is there a headphone jack on your console? You could do that and mute the TV maybe?

Are you sure you're plugging them into the TV's headphone jack? My Samsung has a headphone jack on the side, and an identical jack on back that's actually the audio input for a PC.

Try the cheaper wired version if price is an issue. Looks like it's about half that. Anything you're able to cobble together at radio shack will cost you at least $30.

    Do 360s have that?

I tried searching all over the sides since I know it has a few jacks there but if it is it is hidden ridiculously well.

I'm guessing you actually have a LN40B540, not 8540 (as I couldn't find any reference to that). It looks like it has standard stereo (red/white rca connectors) for audio out. You can get an adapter that will connect to these and allow you to plug in a standard headphone jack. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Male-3-5mm-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable/dp/B000I23TTE/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1286821009&sr=1-2

Here's a link to what I think should be the manual for your TV: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200904/20090417184447640/BN68-01883G-00L02-0312.pdf

    Whoops, it is. My mistake.

Also looks like I'll have to settle with getting an adapter. Neither of the jacks that fit are getting anything when the TV's set to external sound.

Also if you have any home audio equipment lying around there is a really good chance it will have the RCA in and a headphone jack out.

There is a cheap 5 disc changer boombox thing that I use for this very purpose.

Yeah, that's because the jacks that fit aren't output. According to the manual for that model, the only audio outputs are the red/white stereo ones, and then an optical digital audio out. There's a 3.5mm audio-in jack for when you're using the PC video input, and there's one that looks like it might be a 3.5mm jack that says "EX LINK" which the manual just says "for service only" so no clue what that one does.
