Some judge just issued a worldwide injunction immediately stopping enforcement of the American military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips' landmark ruling also ordered the government to suspend and discontinue all pending discharge proceedings and investigations under the policy.

    Uh

Is that supposed to hold or affect anyone because I kind of doubt it's anything more than idle dickwaving

I just saw this headline today, but didn't read the details. I imagine it will not actually go into affect as it will be, i don't know, appealed immediately or something.

That's the gist. Unless someone appeals or finds a way to stop it or something something dark side.

well it would be pretty funny if a bunch of gay servicemen read this, and celebrated national coming out day by coming out to their squadmates or whatever

and then it got overturned on appeal and they all got discharged

On the bright side: though the republicans are disconcertingly unified, they'll need a pretty big majority to overturn this. I think? This isn't one of those 51% things. So as long as the dems cant keep JUST ENOUGH of their shit together to cancel out change in either direction for the next 60 days this should stick. Hopefully.

a court appeal shouldn't need any sort of legislative action to overturn. It will get taken up to the supreme court, who will (most likely) 5-4 overturn it.

the way i feel about things like this

i'm happy that there was a decision made

but i know that there's a good chance it's gonna be appealed because, despite the fact that the Constitution guarantees that everybody on this planet has equal rights like everybody else, fucking Republicans and some Democrats seem to automatically think that means everybody that's just like them

i hope there comes a day when gays are allowed to marry everywhere in the U.S. and share rights everybody else shares, and i also hope i live to see that day, even if it's the last day i'm alive

don't ask don't tell would be A-OK legally speaking if it was applied equally to all gays

I'm not convinced that combat oriented MOS gays are treated equally to non-combat oriented MOS gays
