I'm sure like 20 other people will want the same thing (Scott Pilgrim costume)

I need a halloween costume. I'm incredibly bad at this and lazy, so I'm thinking Scott Pilgrim. Any ideas on the best ways to pull this off? Most obvious thing seems to be the X-men patch on a blue jacket, but I'd need to find the jacket. Gelling the hair would probably also be key. Does anyone have any other clever ideas?

What is this I don't even.

All you need for Scott Pilgrim is:

    Jeans
Game or Band T-shirt (preferably one with the alternate color bands on the sleeves and neck)
    wrist bands
    and a toy katana.

As for the patch, get some red/yellow cloth and do it that way.

I take Hallowe'en a tad more serious than most. I wouldn't dream of a "costume" along the lines of what InkSplat described. That's fine for most people, but my idea of a Hallowe'en costume is not simply wearing the same clothes as the person in mind. That's called a uniform.

I would aim for something like this

    100_0477.jpg

That may be a lot more than you're willing to go with, but that's my take on the holiday. I've won a number of "Best Costume" awards because of my mentality. My Tin Man costume a few years back, for example, was almost movie quality, except for the fact that I didn't use actual metal for the body parts. This year, I won at a work party by dressing up as this eccentric old man that always comes in. They closed the place down for our party, and I actually had to call to get them to come open the front door for me because they thought I was the old man trying to get in.

So yeah, my advice is to actually put some time and effort (and some money) into it. It's much more rewarding than going around all night saying, "Scott Pilgrim. From the graphic novels. Yeah, the movie." Something closer to the picture above would be fantastic.

    That is hilariously creepy.

    But an excellent costume, nonetheless.

There are a couple problems with that costume if you're going to a party, though.

    1) If you plan to drink, you're going to spend most of the party with your mask off.
    2) If you plan to talk, you're going to spend most of the party with your mask off.
    3) If you plan to not sweat to death, you're going to spend most of the party with your mask and jacket off.

I had a friend who bought a full-on plastic Master Chief set of armor, went to a party, and couldn't even sit down, let alone hear anything or be heard.

    That isn't exactly much fun.

Alternatively, a mask like that can be replaced with make-up and a wig and still be recognizable.

Buy a skin tone cream make-up from any costume supply store (I recommend a theatrical supply store rather than a seasonal store that carries hallowe'en stuff). For the eyebrows, either use a black creme makeup or buy some black felt and spirit gum to stick them on. I would also use the black makeup to make a large mouth over your own.

Figure out a way to attach a subtitle to yourself.
    Scott Pilgrim
    22 Years Old

It's an easy little touch that'll make it look like more of a costume

A 'Hello my name is' badge would be great for that.

I think the idea was to emulate the graphic novel style. A name badge is a cop-out, in my opinion.

If it was mimicking the comic it would read: "Scott Pilgrim; 22 Years Old; Status: Awesome"

A comic style thought bubble made from cardboard attached to the costume might work.
