Seeking advice re blog services.

Hey guys,
I've been on blogger for a while but I'm not really sure whether I want to stick with it. Sometimes it seems like the templates they provide are a little too restrictive. Granted, I do fail pretty hard at formatting, and don't have much (read: any) background experience in designing websites, but I'm curious to hear what you guys recommend (if you do the blogging thing).
I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice on alternative blog services?
Please don't take this a some kind of self-serving call for attention, I'm just curious to see what you people are into, because with the folks I hang out with IRL have next to nothing to say about the matter.

Just make sure you read up on WP security and permalink setup if you go the self-hosting route.
I'd been think about wordpress as a possibility. Never heard about Atahualpa though- it looks promising enough. It looks easy enough to import data as well. This will give me plenty to fiddle around with.
