So, I'm back on WoW for Cataclysm and I need something to converse with my fellow PA'ers in Beasts Of Unusual Size over Vent. I'm looking to spend about $50 tops and I'd prefer if I could order it through Amazon. So, any thoughts on a good gaming headset? Mac compatible please.

I know this is slightly more than what you wanted to spend, but I bought this headset for WoW a few years ago and I've loved it. And since it wraps around your ears you can wear it for as long as you like.

    Razer headset thing.

Plus, everyone's commented on how nice my voice sounds through it. So there's that.

I'd highly recommend the Razer Charcharias as well. I got to try them out at BlizzCon last year and was so impressed I bought them as soon as I got home.

While they're a little out of your $50 limit, I think you'll find the combination of comfort/sound quality/durability is worth it.

this and whatever headphones you like. it's a great mic, it's cheap, and the fact that you can use it with actual headphones means you don't have to put up with the shitty sound quality or discomfort that come with basically the vast majority of computer headsets.

    Steel Series Siberia $45

    http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-51016-Headphones-White/dp/B002SN9RN8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1287181209&sr=1-1

Currently what I'm using. Sounds great and are super comfy (very soft material on the around the ear cups and a soft cloth band that touches the top of the head rather than plastic), no in line volume or mic. I switched from a pair of sennheisers which the mic was going out on. Moved to these and a cheap desk mic I got at target and am very happy with the set up.

EDIT: I would also recommend that whatever set you get, that it be around the ear instead of on ear. You will be thankful for it later.

So, I can just plug these into my MacBook Pro's headphone jack and it'll function as both input and output? I've only used USB headsets before.

    For a non-USB mic/headphone setup, you'll need both a headphone jack and a line-in jack.

You can get a usb to audio out/line in adapter. Seems they are around $5. But then I bet your computer has both a headphone and microphone jack. Usually coloured pink for the line in.

    No, it doesn't. It's a MacBook Pro.

    Anyone have USB recommendations?

I would recommend Plantronics .Audio 995 wireless cans. For your price range, USB signal and onset mic for Vent if you raid. But if you are an audiophile some people aren't happy with wireless sound (I think it is perfectly fine), but I like being able to grab a beer from the kitchen and not miss someone going over a boss strat.

It's more I don't want to buy batteries than anything else.

I've owned my current pair for about 17 months. Charges via USB, original batteries.

Exactly right on the price you want. They are wired, so no batteries. They work great for me, sound great, they have a volume dongle on the cord with an amplifier. They are USB. They will also work with xbox 360 if you have one of those.

Pretty great for the price all around.

wait, now that I look closer they have mic and sound plugs on them, so I am not sure how the sound works on the computer, let me plug mine in and find out.

the USB might just be for power. gotta check.

Edit: no we're good. It totally works on just USB.

In fact, I don't even know why those sound jacks are on there. Must be cuz 360 doesnt output to just usb.

edit: they kinda hiss on the computer a bit though. You won't notice when games are happening though. doesn't do that on the 360

I think they just include them as an alternate way of plugging them in.
