They're bluffing so hard they're going to rupture all the capillaries in their bodies simultaneously.
The first Professor Layton alone sold about as much as the entire Ace Attorney series combined. It's not a question of if it will be localized, but how quickly they intend to localize it, and us commenting on a blog isn't going to change that.
I guess that does beg the question: which camp has got the controlling stake in the game and who do we beg to for release? Is it Capcom, or is it Level 5/Nintendo?

I assumed that Level 5 was running the show here, though I guess I have no really concrete reason to think so outside of the game being announced during their conference and them siring the much stronger half of this partnership.

1Up said Shu Takumi is the one writing the game's scenario. I was debating whether to put the music available on the site on my Capcom folder or on my Nintendo folder, but I ultimately decided to put it on my Capcom folder to have an easier time finding it. I probably should have gone with Nintendo because Layton is mentioned first in the title, which often denotes which company carries more weight, but whatever, I don't have a Layton folder yet because I haven't tried it.

I'll be borrowing it from a friend later.
I heard he was one of the writers attached to the project, though being the scenario writer and the script writer are a whole different bag of beans. of course, Takumi hasn't been the AA writer for a few years now, but his involvement still says a lot.
Definitely try out Layton, yeah. Its tone is more subdued than AA, but it's still imaginative and a lot of fun. Layton himself is more of a Sherlock Holmes kind of character.

I think this just about pushes me over the edge. There is no way I can't buy a 3DS now.

I would think that since Layton is a Nintendo property and it's exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, I would say Nintendo.

Layton is Level 5. Nintendo just publishes it outside of Japan. However Level 5 is opening/opened an office in the US so they may start publishing on their own.

Yep, Nintendo has no claim whatsoever to Professor Layton. Nothing's stopping them from moving the franchise to another system, not that they would considering Professor Layton is probably the best selling non-Nintendo game on the DS.
As for the release, Level 5 are also opening a European office, so chances are they'll be looking at publishing at least some of their DS games in both territories. I don't think they're big enough to publish all of their games though, so maybe Nintendo will still publish some of their games (or Sony with Ninokuni PS3).
No offense, but it sorta sounds like that blog post is just whoring for comments and page hits. They haven't announced anywhere outside of japan, but it would be really stupid of them to not release it elsewhere. My guess is they're still very early in development (no gameplay footage in the trailer) and haven't even hired a localization team for the international versions yet.
They do have to spend money on voice actors and other stuff, though. We're not really sure, and it's best not to take risks and have friends comment there.
While I hate current Capcom, they are usually fairly good with localising even niche games. They actually wanted to localise Namco X Capcom but Namco, being the assholes we all know they are, cock blocked them (since they were the ones that developed it).
Whenever a brand new series is just announced in Japan, I simply take the "We have no plans to localize" spiel as business as usual. Which makes sense, they just announced it, they probably don't actually have any plans at the moment. It's when we get closer and closer to the release date that I start worrying if they don't say anything.

Of course they have plans. When you budget something, you estimate how much money it will bring in, which includes money gained from localization/licensing to other publishers. However, sometimes those plans are simply budget it just for a Japanese release and if someone comes along and wants to license it, that's a bonus. Then there is of course Namco, which I'm pretty sure makes no plans at all.
The capcom-unity site doesn't actually say they have no plans. It just says that Capcom Japan hasn't said anything. Given that Capcom has a strong Western presence, and Level 5 is trying to build one, not localizing would be really odd.

Alright, so this news subsequently made me buy all three Layton games today.
Time to do some catching up.
Yikes, I hope you enjoy them and don't get burnt out.
I'm going to say don't be afraid to use guides. Some puzzles will make you just tear your hair out even with the hints, and each game is pretty long. Don't waste too much time on one stubborn puzzle you can't solve.

Ha, I enjoy a good logic puzzle, but I don't plan to marathon through all of them at once.
As for the difficult puzzles, I'll be sure to give myself permission to tap out of them, something I almost never did in the AA games.
Also, I think this is a pretty good thing to keep in mind for Layton in general: if a puzzle seems like you're going to have to plug in a lot of numbers or do a lot of calculation, first step back and see if there's a simple way you can just do it through comparison (of shapes, weights etc.). Some puzzles do involve calculation, but just as many have a neat trick to them.

Half of the official hints you can buy for puzzles all but state this. My favorite was one in PL1 that involved triangles, areas, and angles, and I think it even said right in the description "Don't be an idiot and bring trig into the mix".
I still used trig though. Nobody tells me what I can and can't do.

I feel dirty every time I use hint coins. If all else fails, input some random numbers.
You crazy!!! Hint coins don't cost you Picarats but wrong answers will forever mar your faux IQ score! The classy response to being stumped is always to seek aid before brute forcing guesses.
Better yet, you try to figure out the answer on your own, and just before you type it in, look up a FAQ to see if you were right! It skips the whole quitting thing altogether!

Ok, my first puzzle: Typing a damn 'i' into the name entry system. After I conceded to not using my actual name, I'm enjoying the challenge so far.

But I'm gonna echo the sentiment that there's probably little chance of it not coming out of Japan.
they'd port games to your goddamn wristwatch if they could
