MotW 10/20: Maximum Carnage Mk.II/So it's like that! (Deadpool)
Let me start off by saying that Clayton Crain is streets ahead as an artist. If anyone saw his stuff with X-Force you'd agree. He's dark and gritty, really the perfect choice for a story-line involving Spider-Man's most violent of villains.
The art is so pretty and the issue invokes a lot of Maximum Carnage nostalgia, even if you hate Carnage I highly suggest checking this issue out. It's an "every two month" 5-part mini, so this is gonna take a while to follow. And coming in at a tie for my MotW has to be the Deadpool v. Rogers fight in Deadpool #28:
Deadpool apperently has been working with imperfect genetic clones of Rogers, Natalie, and Moonknight and he thinks they're all friends on a super team. When the real Rogers shows up and starts beating up Wade he is a tad frusterated that the man he idolizes and thought he had become "pals" with is beating him up. He lets it all out in this fight.
Pretty good fight, filled with Wade's "I just want you guys to like/respect me" anti-hero vibe he's working with. Oh, and I'm sorry TLB but:
I didn't get a chance to get to the store today, I'm thinking about not picking up the rest of Chaos War and just getting the inevitable trade. I do however plan on getting Deadpool and Carnage. I guess I'll sneak out at lunch tomorrow and grab em.
I'm picking it my stuff tomorrow but the only single I'm getting is New Ultimates #4 so I doubt I'll be posting here again, unless it's to gush about how beautiful the art is.
So, wait. What is the deal with the carnage mini? I've seen you guys talking about it for the last couple weeks. What's the story? Is it a new thing or one of those retelling minis that marvel has been doing recently?

No, it's a new story. It's the post-Kasady symbiote and what's going to happen with it now. There's been talk that the host is going to be a woman, but as to who specifically I don't think anyone knows for sure.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.
Getting the feeling just from previews , that the "host" for new carnage is gonna be more a sustenance than a controlling force at all, which would probably please the symbiote even more with how torturous it had became. Like, taking victims along for the murderous spree as a forced host, while slowly killing them for sustenance.
( Course I'm probably wrong and it'll be Shriek or something to piss off TLB)
Shriek will be the only one who can stop it, with you know, shrieking.

If they're bringing up the Maximum Carnage storyline again, they'll probably be aware that the Carnage symbiote became immune to sonics during it. Shriek might actually be a viable host.
I'm not gonna lie, the story is good, but it needs more Toxin.
I'm not sure how much of a change it would be for Carnage to just jump from host to host like a parasite though when all it'll be doing are the exact same things it did while it was bonded with Kasady.
also who in their right mind would be nostalgic about Maximum Carnage
Me, because the Maximum Carnage series were the first comics I ever bought with my own money when I was like 10 (my first allowance ever). I know its not a great story, but I still love it anyway. Of course, I haven't reread it since then, so I'm allowed to keep my happy memories of how awesome it was to a 10 year old.
Batman/Superman featured a team-up between Supergirl and Robin, wherein the two investigate a string of mysterious deaths in Metropolis.
Just like in Batgirl, Damien proves to be a great foil for a teenaged superheroine:
Anyway, turns out that Scarecrow has been murdering Lexcorp interns in order to get back at Lex after Lex took Scarecrow's power ring in Blackest Night. Strange strategy, given how Lex probably doesn't care about the kids who get him his coffee.
Anyway, Supergirl gets hit with fear gas. As always, the effects eventually wear off and Scarecrow gets clobbered.

it was a 'good bomb'...
I enjoyed Maximum Carnage mainly for having lots of Venom in it, who I dug back in the day. I remember a lot of inconsistencies between issues which bugged me, though I can understand why they were there now.
Mainly it was just a big brawl with a lot of different guest stars.
I'm all for seeing someone take a crack at making a 'sequel' as long as they can come up with something different and enjoyable. I'll have to pick this up when I next hit the shop.

I liked it, you're not my judge!
you are officially the new ambassador to bad taste
Next you're going to say that you hated the "Round Robin" storyline, too. Madness!
I don the title proudly

Yes, yes she did. I re-read Nextwave a couple of weeks ago and it is still lovely, lovely stuff.
