I ate some expired tuna accidentally. (STAYING HOME. LOCK IT)

So, I just made some Tuna Fish Helper (gross, I know) and after eating a portion, had a terrible thought and looked at the expiration on the can of tuna. "Best by December 2009". How bad is that? Google doesn't seem to yield up much specific information. I'm mainly wondering if it's safe to leave the house and go to class in a couple hours or should I stay home and wait it out? I've had food poisoning from eating bad fish before and it wasn't pretty.

It was canned. It'll be fine.

even if you get sick from it it won't be right away probably, I'd be more worried about tommorow then a couple of hours.

If it was stored in your (cool, dark) cupboard it was probably fine. Food poisoning can show up within a few hours to 24+ hour period.
How long would it take you to return home from class if you felt bad at all? If it's longer than fifteen minutes, I wouldn't go. People've told me they can usually feel it coming on, but I've had a very sudden onset of debilitating food poisoning about 3 hours after eating a burrito once. I was standing outside waiting for a ride feeling fine, felt a little urge to go to the bathroom and by the time I'd walked inside felt like dying.
I agree with Castle on this one. If it's a class you can skip without penalty then do it. Nothing's worse than having the runs in the middle of class.
I won't be missing anything by skipping the class, and to get home I'd have to navigate public transport. Only about 25 minutes from walking out the class door to being at home, but man...if it's anything like what happened last time I had food poisoning (which luckily came on while I was at home) I don't want to risk ANYTHING.
Use by and Best by dates generally are only the manufactures estimate at how long it will be at "peak" quality. As long as you stored it right it won't make you sick. And trust me if it was bad you'd know, it would smell pretty awful.
<--- has smelled canned tuna gone bad, its pretty disgusting.

Pretty much the entire can.

Yeah, I'm just going to stay home.
