Gettting around New York? (Answer: Don't go to New Jersey.) [LOCK]

So I'm headed up to NYC for the Dresden Dolls concert at Irving Plaza on Halloween. I'm flying into LaGuardia on the 30th and staying at the Courtyard Jersey City Newport.

I called the hotel to see if there was a shuttle service or the like (which there isn't) and found out that a cab from LGA to the hotel will run me something in the $90 range plus tolls and tip. This struck me as a bit much, so I decided to turn to the Airport website which was less than helpful, having this to say:
Connecticut/Suffolk/New Jersey/north and west of Westchester County: Price is negotiated between passenger and driver at the start of the trip.

I'll freely admit being out of my depth in this, so I pose the question: Is this really what I can expect to pay for a cab? Would public transport be a reasonable option, considering I'll be lugging a full size suitcase with me?

I used to work in a hotel in NJ, and I can say yep, that distance is around that price. You should've flown into Newark airport, they're considerably closer. Let's see though. Do you have a cancellation fee? What are you paying for your room? How much travel time to the city is too much?

The subway does run out to LaGuardia. It'd take awhile, but you could take the NYC subway and then transfer to the PATH.

The main reason we're staying at that particular hotel is that I can get my Marriott Associate Rate, which is $35/night. A far cry from the usual rack rate of $249/night. There's a PATH station directly across from the hotel, and that can get me within a few blocks of Irving Plaza. That's actually the main reason I booked that particular hotel. Well, that and the fact that it had availability.

I believe I may have found the solution - Don't go all the way to New Jersey.

By using Dial7 Car Service I can nab a Flat-Rate-To-Manhattan Town Car for $36. Taking that to the 14th St PATH Station and then hopping the PATH across the river to our hotel.

Unless anyone has anything additional I might like to know, I'll ask to have this bad boy locked.
