Okay PA, I have been rewarded a great deal by all of you and your independent feelers. You gave me Elona , Mount and Blade, and several others that you have put out and I would buy if I had an Xbox (here's hoping Games for windows gets you more paychecks, dude).
So, what should I start paying attention to, what works of gaming art are being crafted by a husband and wife in Turkey or some guy practicing his art on weekends. Preach and make me smarter!
I'd like to take the opportunity to ask you to check out the game I'm currently working on, Purify Puzzle. It's been made, basically, by myself and a few other industry folks in our spare time. We're a match-3 puzzle title with local and online competitive multiplayer, and we've made sure we're compatible with USB arcade sticks >.> We're a pretty hardcore group and that gives us a cool spin on the match 3 genre, in my opinion.
Please note I am hells of biased. If you want to take a look at our trailer, it's in the site in my sig.
Besides my title, I've had a lot of fun with Breath of Death VII out on Xbox Indie Games and also by a couple of forumers (RainbowDespair and Slash000). I got to play Dust Force at the Austin GDC show, and that game is pretty effing rad and definitely worth a look.

Dude, I was talking about Breath of Death in op, I stand by my statement.
I have heard of a lot of these and will rez the dead thread accordingly, but I am looking for ones in development that I should jump onto. I found out about Mount and Blade in development thanks to the forum and can't watch a period piece without thinking about what I would have done.
It's... uh, you know. Your typical top down view, 2D, coop, Elder-God-zombie-mutant-apocalypse-survival-horror-adventure game.
It's from Arcen Games. They make AI War: Fleet Command and Tidalis, which are pretty awesome and solid games in their own right. I'm really interested to see what kind of twists they are going to put into Alden Ridge. Both of their previous games have tons of features and heavy multiplayer support with an emphasis towards coop gameplay and heavy community support. I'm really interested in seeing what this is all about.
They also plan on a Tower Defense game called A Valley Without Wind, which sounds pretty cool too.
Your best option is to look at indie game blogs. IndieGames is good. So is RockPaperShotgun, for PC indie games, though they cover a lot more than just indie games.
SpaceChem by Zachtronic Industries looks interesting. It looks like a combination of chemistry, design a la PipeDream (though not timed), and puzzles. I think. Hard to tell from the trailer on the website.
Also looking forward to Skulls of the Shogun, a TBS where your characters can gain strength by eating the skulls of the enemies you kill, but if that character dies, the skulls become fair game for anyone and momentum can turn very quickly. You also have generals who are your strongest character, but it starts off asleep. Every turn it's asleep, it gains 1 to its max HP. So that's part of the strategy as well, deciding when to unleash your general. It's been described as similar to Advance Wars, except it's not tile-based. And it involves the undead.
Iji is crazy awesome. Stealth/action/choice-based platformer with RPG elements? Hell yes. Think Deus Ex meets Out of This World meets Contra (or some other platform shooter).
It's pretty tough at times, but that's what makes the upgrading aspect work. Basically you earn money over the course of the missions, which you spend on upgrading your ship. The best thing though is that aside from the stupid number of weapons on offer and how you decide to use them, you can always sell back everything for what it cost. It effectively means that you don't need to worry about making "wrong" choices with your weapons, and instead you're just free to experiment with every combination you can think of until you find one that works. It's a simple thing but it makes a world of difference compared to other games, you've effectively got a pool of cash that you can spend on weapons / your ship, and this only increases over the course of the game. Different ships and configurations can take different numbers of weapons, armour ratings, and heat dissipation, stuff like that.
It also has a pretty rockin' sountrack.
Also, I heavily recommend Frozen Synapse. Currently in paid beta (pre-order to access), it's basically a turn based tactical strategy game where you and your opponent plot out your moves, and then watch them play out simultaneously in 5 second increments. It's all about thinking through your opponents course of action, and countering it.
The key to the game is that aside from plotting out your moves, you can also plot out precisely all the moves you think the enemy might take, and then press play to simulate how it would turn out. Once you're satisfied with things, you hit PRIME, and your turn gets sent off to the server. If the other player has submitted their turn as well, you both receive the next set of instructions, and you see the results play out in real time for the next five seconds, before plotting the next turn. It forces you to try and assess what your opponent is going to do and try to counter-act their course of action. But maybe they know that you know what their best course of action is, and decide to go with something else. But then maybe you know that he knows that you know that HE knows...
Sometimes, the strategy can very much be wheels within wheels as you simulate possible plans of attack and possible responses. It's awesome.
I've been playing VVVVVV in my free time. It's tough but it's not IWTBTG or Super Meat Boy tough. I'd say it falls somewhere between those two and Splosion Man on the toughness chart. Anyway, it's really good. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.
The website has great info, not seen this game before at all. Weapons look a bit floaty, but that's probably due to playing so much MNC lately. I don't really like Tower Defense games, but TD + anything else seems to be a formula for greatness.

I wish Valve would do Natural Selection 2 on 360...

Natural Selection 2 is in the works by the original mod team IIRC.
Academagia is good if you like life sims / wizard school. Seriously good for multiple playthroughs and they're constantly releasing free content on their website.
Another note about Dungeon Defenders is that the drop in/drop out is for both local and online simultaneously.
So, like you could be playing coop on the couch with someone and other people online at the same time. Or 3 local and 1 online. Mix and match to taste It will splitscreen up to 4 if you want to.

Dust Force is a hardcore Jumper-like platformer with really slick graphics. I await it eagerly.
FEZ has this funky 2D-3D platfoming swapping thing going on. That's Xbox-only, though.
Spelunky is also getting an Xbox version. Lots of shiny HD graphics and new stuff.
Tis worth noting that we do have an indie games thread lurking around somewhere. It tends to err towards free stuff, though.

Our second RPG is almost done! It should be out on XBox Live Indie Games in 2-4 weeks.
Steam ID : rwb36, Twitter : Werezompire,
My personal recommendations are as follows: N+, Eversion, Burn The Rope, Cave Story, La Mulana, and Yume Nikki
The vast majority of these are available on the PC, N+ has an excellent full blown version on XBLA too.
Origin is the exact same as my Steam, in case you're needing a Support or Assault in BF3.

I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.

Also, get Recettear on Steam. Do it.

VVVVVV is a great retro puzzle/platformer.
Also, I need to learn Cthulu mythos now. Whatever, you just have to know that Cthulu is an awesome, apocalyptic demon squid man.
Is there any word on WiiWare Cave Story having all those shitty problems fixed? Nixalis really fucked Pixel over.
Coming to Steam, PSN and XBL next month for $9.99.

Thank you, that looks right up my alley. I like action strategy mixes.
Yes!
Just this month in fact.

HOLY FUCK YES
Is that actually four player split screen? I never thought I'd see it again!
I see Slash removed the Cthulhu boner.
played it at PAX and it's wonderful fun
i cannot wait for it to be released.
Among other tweaks.. usually these covers undergo bunches of iterations before they're finalized.

Ha, well spotted!
So, does the OP have an xbox or not, can't work it out!
Damn, that looks fantastic!
