I've played AP Gangplank before and actually won with it. It's a 'gimmick' build that's really effective if you complete your items and its GP, so he WILL complete his build unless it's an extremely short game. It also pushes towers like a boss if no one comes to stop you.
why the atma's on counter-jungler eve? i'm curious
for the crit?
Damage/Crit/Durability.
The item really belongs in any crit/ad focused melee build, with few exceptions.
I don't get it on Tryndamere because he can easily hit 100% crit rate due to his passive and he doesn't really need significant defenses due to his ultimate.
Also useful on ranged AD/Crit champions, but a little less because ranged champions typically have lower HP pools and don't tend to eat a lot of AD damage because they're ranged.

I thought Riot was changing Atma's so it was HP/armor instead of crit/armor
Just won another 4v5 game. Was carried by a 16/3 Master Yi that was damn-near killing the enemy champions in one hit. The opposing team was Garen, Master Yi, and three other random champions. I was Amumu, playing bottom and Garen/Yi were in my lane. I just built and early Thornmail and it seemed to be effective enough so that they just stopped trying to push.
On more than one occasion I would blow my Ult and then our Fiddle would CAWCAWCAWCAW on top of them. It was awesome.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone take Atma's in a game
It's a great item, but the problem is it's more of a late game item. If you get it early you diminish the HP=damage part of the item. Also, the crit isn't super useful before you finish an infinity edge.
At 2000 life, the item has an above-average gold efficiency rating and it's quite easy to get to 2500 or so life with runes/masteries/red elixir.
50 dmg/45 armor/18% crit for 2400 gold is really nice.
For longest time I went without fighting very many, and now they're around all the time!

tried this build on kayle last night:
doran's ring
stinger
L1 boots
giant's belt
rageblade
upgrade boots
gunblade
either stinger > nashors or giant's belt > rylai's if the game lasts this long, depending on what's happening
it worked pretty well. having the stinger early helps a lot with last-hits, harassment and DPS, and already having the AS boost when rageblade comes out makes the rageblade a whole lot more practical
1) Sona's ratios are not all that spectacular. Additionally, she has one spell that doesn't benefit from AP, one spell that will always heal herself no matter if she needs it or not (and if she has a Locket, she probably doesn't need it that badly), one spell for damage that can't even be targeted (and I think the smart targeting on it is broken this patch anyway), and her ult.
2) You don't need to rush the Locket provided you have wards up to see when jerks are coming to hard CC you.
3) If you don't get 1 defensive/cdr item on top of the Locket (Glacial Shroud or Spirit Visage is my preference, depending on enemy damage, but if I can get away with Spirit Visage I'll pick that all else equal), you are still squishy enough to get blown up if looked at. That said, go Meki->Tear of the Goddess straight off. Her patch heal and counter harass should be enough to keep her undiveable until mid-game. She is very, very hard to harass and even close with during laning for most champions because of her great ranges and natural move speed. It's only once team fights start that she's liable to get blown up for being out of position. When laning ends, there's a pretty good chance I still had at least one of my original potions leftover.
4) Don't take Clarity unless you are laning with someone who has a total hard on for spamming and even then fuck them. Take Clairvoyance if you want to be annoying support, Flash if you want to be more aggressive and as a better overall tool. Second spell should probably be Teleport for ideal purchasing times (since you want your items as soon as you get the cash) and later on for quick assisting if you have deep wards placed.
5) So, why AD Sona? I've made my thoughts on her AP values clear enough. Playstyle wise, she has a great autoattack range and good movement, so she can be where she needs to be around the battle. Making her damage source AD means that she can twist whatever auras her party needs at the time while not needing to be concerned as much that she's missing out on Songs of Valor due to placement or what have you. It's also more unexpected on Sona, so when people are trying to figure out why their face is getting melted, they're not looking at you.
I support this. To each his own with playstyle, but AP Sona to me just seems boring, and CDR/AD Sona is really fun. I usually go Tear of the Goddess, Glacial Shroud, Sheen, finish Manamune, grab something else for CDR to max it. I might try working in the new Malady sometime, see how that works out.
With how spammable her spells are you have Sheen up whenever you want. Add the power chord and you can get some pretty mean burst for a support, plus with the CDR you can still support really well. She's mainly about the auras, and not the actives, so AP doesn't help a whole lot. Plus having that ult up every 36 seconds or so is amazing for team fights late game.
I did some rough math of it and Triforce is equal damage for her as Infinity Edge on the build I use. However, that assumes a constant usage of Triforce's buff. If you can't do that (out of position, somehow out of mana, etc), IE is a more consistent choice and usually what I get.
I like to go something like...
Meki+2HP
Tear
Boots1 (try to stay in lane long enough for this, might not always be possible)
Catalyst
Boots3
Manamune
Locket
Spirit Visage/Glacial Shroud (maxes CDR here)
Recurve
BF Sword
Wit's End typically
Infinity Edge
EDIT: Nevermind, forgot locket had CDR as well. Still curious about your runes though.
What runes do you have that it can max CDR with Visage or Shroud?
OT, but playing Blitz for the first time last night in an all-random match was one of the most painful things ever.
Grab is a nice idea but he's so terrible otherwise that when I grab I feel like I'm just inviting the enemy over to smack me in the face. And the half-second delay threw me off like crazy.

Yeah, he takes a bit to get used to in terms of timing. The grab through the wall into the tower is beautiful though, especially when immediately stunned.
@This : Meh not so much to me. I usually go for the cool factor first and if they work well then all the better. For Example I play Jax and Mordekaiser which are not usually considered in a favorable manner. I picked up Missfortune because she dual wielded guns. I play Kat because I like her design, and I play Lux because of her Spellthief costume.
It's just a bonus that All of those heroes have fun playstyles as well.
Heroes with playstyles that I got but don't enjoy much are Vlad and Crab guy (who's name escapes me at the moment)

So.... any tips for her, other than spam tornadoes+buy rod of ages/nashors?
I'm a little late here, but I have the advice!
Get all of your abilities before level 6, but focus on that shield! After shield, I max out her slow and only use tornadoes for the knockup if you're running away, or to prevent enemies from escaping. Or for saving teammates who are dying. Or for interrupting channeled ults.
I start with a Doran's ring and buy boots and Mejai's as soon as I can, then go for a Catalyst. Depending on how much magic damage and crowd control they have, I'll either get a Rod of Ages or Banshee's Veil. After that, basically build whatever you want. I don't get Nashor's because I'd rather put my shield that gives 50 attack damage and absorbs about 400 damage (or more!) on carries so they can melt faces better and never die, and as such, my auto-attacks won't be doing much.
The shield is great for last-hitting and for getting stacks on your Mejai's, just put it on someone who has hit the dying champion and profit!

Janna's main role in a teamfight is to protect your carry from getting knocked out of that fight. Her secondary role is to break up a fight going badly so you don't get aced. Your ult is to be used as a momentum changer in a fight. Never lead with your ult (unless its laning phase and you can knock someone into your turret, then slow them). Wait till the critical moment and blow the enemy team away and boost the health of your team.

That's what I'm saying. A janna that shields herself constantly is being wasteful, and probably over extending if you really feel you need to use it on yourself often.

Ends up with 5000 hp and ~500 AP, with good mitigation and max CDR. Seems good if you can get there.

Was playing Swain and went around crowing people with my ultimate, almost perma-ulting myself with mana regen trinkets
