After watching the recent trailer for the new Pokemon Wii game, and its online battle. An idea was struck unto me.
How kickass would a Pokemon MMO be? Think of how many mechanics already exist in it:
-The leveling system already exists. Applying a Level to your character could be accomplished, though really, not necessary.
-The full 3d aspects of finding pokemon, roaming the plains and the forests. Then putting them in combat situations, all unique to their own species, making it fun capturing the little bastards a challenge, and rewarding.
-Fully fleshed out Tournaments.. that actually take place every month or two.
-Pre-existing Overworlds.
-Alternate Leveling territories, which have already been mapped out, thanks to 3, soon to be 4 existing Pokemon games. Or even, possible expansion material.
-A 98% complete PvP system. This is a no-brainer I think.
-Fully customizable Trainers, rather than you standard Boy/Girl.
-Possible Team (Rocket/Aqua/Magma/Whatever) Alignment.
-Possible DS connectiviy/interactivity.
-All of this, with simple enough mechanics, easy enough to be played on the Wii.
Can anyone think of any other mechanics that carry over well?
Is anyone here actually willing to pay monthly subscriptions to a game like that?
Has anyone made an attempt to sell his soul to the devil for this idea already?

And I also wouldn't play it due to the likely age group of everyone playing. "omg u haev pikachu lets batle" "join clan missle we r takign aplications we r better than team rocekt"

M1st33 has challenged you!
M1st33 sends out her Mew!
Hell, I'd play it just to beat the crap out of someone else's pikachu
Damn... now I feel like a douche.
Just let the thread die, as I'm sure all its ideas have been fleshed out already.
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
And Pokemon would bring in the worst for Nintendo.
Although in some regards I think Zelda would create a close second.
Yeah, that could definitly work.
clan missle

What I don't like is playing with these fucking little kids.
I've played one, it was called Pokemon Village. It was made with Java and was ran off a pokemon fan site. It was pretty okay, though there were missing features.
That isn't a drawback, it's a benefit!
The game would have to have pvp elements because of the nature of Pokemon, it just follows logically. In a normal MMOG you're just beating up on mostly college kids etc. In a pokemon etc., you could beat up little kids('s characters)
Problem is you don't beat up the kids you just beat up their pokemon.
Maybe this MMORPG should have permanent death though.
If Nintendo made a Pokemon MMO, they would undoubtedly cripple it so only people who swapped Friend Codes could chat - or they would introduce a Clubhouse Games-style chat with predetermined messages. It would be a massive blow to an MMO if you couldn't communicate freely.
I can see where Nintendo is coming from too with their online restrictions. A big share of their market is kids, and if a 9-year-old and their parents sat down to play online, and were exposed to the type of crap that goes on in PC or XBox online games, then it would hit the national newspapers within a week.
I stopped playing Counter-Strike online after getting sick of how immature, insulting and vulgar most of the other players were. I can imagine that even a small minority of this type of person in a Pokemon MMO would ruin things for everyone. So a Pokemon MMO would undoubtedly include crippled chat features.
Make it so PVP isn't voluntary. I like the way you think.
Revolutionary, I know.
But... but...
That wouldn't be combat, then. That would be a duel.
A Pokemon duel!
I think some of us could manage building a brand new team instead of using our old, EV trained powerhouses. Why not experiment with new pokes? In every single game of Pokemon I play, I always build a brand new team then transfer over my old ones even though I rarely ever use them.
I think that would solve any problems except for the whiney kid who can't use his Lv. 100 Mew with max stats.
A Pokemon MMORPG is a bad idea in my opinion. Having asshole kids around would break the fantasy. A normal Pokemon game with a good online mode is fine with me.
I think.
"Balance"
And wouldn't it be great when you kick that little kid's Zapdos's ass with a well trained non-legendary?
Stop putting MMO after an established title.
MMOs have to be built from the ground up. You cant just take an existing game and slap on a chat function and a persistant overworld. It sucks so much.
Tibia.
Also, RuneScape.
Although it's losing all of its good moves this generation due to the physical/special mixup so it will suck pretty bad but I still want to use it because it's a legit shiny.
It can also be used as one of the official badges to enter the various leagues.
Additionally if you defeat the NPC Pokemon master you become THE Pokemon master of that league and people have to beat you to take the crown. Unfortunately htat has downsides. "IamTHEONEPOKEMON_Neo" last signed in : 2 weeks ago". Still it'd be pretty fucking boss. That or taking over for the elite 4. They've have to be a real challenge though, can't let anybody take their place.
But then theres also the possibility you'd let a friend win to advance him or get a connection fault.
The problem is that with a Pokemon MMO, it would only take one arsehole to spew a stream of expletives at a 9-year-old. The parents would be outraged, and Nintendo would be dealing with a PR disaster.
That's why the chat functionality would have to be limited to predefined text strings (at least until people have swapped Friend Codes). In fact, I think this will end up happening with all first/second party Nintendo online games.
MMOs ahve to be built from teh ground up?
Have you never heard of:
Warcraft: Orcs and Humans?
Warcraft II?
Warcraft III?
Man... sure do wish they'd make an MMO out of that series...
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
I doubt that would work. People can always find a way to be offensive no matter how strict the blocking is.
WoW?
Edit: Er, I think I see what you're saying now.
