Yeah, so I have a party this Saturday. Theme is 30's flapper/gangster. I have no idea how to dress for this, and more importantly where to buy the clothes. So help? Guys are suppose to go as gangsters.

They basically just want you to wear a suit, a hat and a tie.

Here's probably what they're looking for when they think gangter:

Suit: Dark with Pinstripes either dark grey or blue or black.
    Shirt: White long sleeve dress
Tie: Non skinny with a solid or striped or not very loud pattery.
    Hat: Fedora
    Shoes: Oxfords or Wingtips
    Violin Case: Optional

I think the whole pinstripes thing was a Hollywood fabrication about gangsters, though. Additionally, most people in the 30's wore solid colors and I don't think Pinstripes caught on until the 1950's. If you're going to nerd out, you should google for 1930's suits and look at the ones that are actually photographs from that time. I'd suggest the following as more 'authentic.'

Suit: Solid color - Charcoal, navy, or tan: No vest.
    Shirt: White long sleeve dress
Tie: Solid color standard tie - not skinny or bow - (Navy or some other muted color).
Hat: Fedora, Bowler, or pork pie
Handkerchief: In breast pocket matching tie.
    Shoes: Oxfords or Wingtips

But, honestly, the details don't matter exactly. Just wear a suit, dress shirt, and a tie. They aren't going to look for more than that.

Awesome, thanks for the tips. I wonder if I could find a gun holster (the ones that go over the chest) for extra points.

A Chicago typewriter is a required accessory:

    That's an Airsoft, btw.

Does it have to be flapper/gangster?

I mean, if I was going to a 30s party I'd probably dress up as a stock broker carrying a graph with a downward-angled red arrow in one hand and a noose in the other.
