Anyone handy with the GECK? I want to make a mod to shut Raul up when crouching/sneaking. It's annoying as fuck to hear his whiny ass complain every 30 seconds.
I looked in the GECK myself but I wasn't able to find anything relating crouching or movement state to spoken dialog.
One of the best things about Fallout 1 was using Hardened Power Armor and laughing at miniguns and gatling lasers.
Your puny munnitions cannot harm me, I am Iron Man! Pew, pew! PLASMA TO THE FACE! HAH!
It was pretty awesome. I look forward to being Iron Man once more, and getting pissed when some mutant jackhole lands a crit on me.
Yesssss.
Hardened Power Armor and a Super Sledge and.... man, ridiculous. Going against gangs of super mutants with miniguns and walking up to them to smash them in the face. So fun.

Make it for Arcade too, jeez.
also, Lily. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO BE QUIET, THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP!
also, Veronica. Try taking it away from me. I just one-shotted a deathclaw with This Machine. Are you being a Commie, Ronnie? We both know what This Machine does to Commies.
also, Boone. I can aim perfectly fine, goddamn it. Making things glowy and red does help, but it's not necessary. How about you shut up and play with your AM Rifle some more. That is acceptable noise from you.
really, Lily was the most annoying one for me. I think because it's just the one line. At least Raul either complains about his knees or makes a snarky comment about crawling around in the dirt. It's a small variety, but it's better than hearing "DON'T WORRY, PUMPKIN! YOUR GRANDMAW KNOWS HOW TO BE QUIET!" every fifteen seconds while trying to creep through a cavern. Apart from that, I like Lily. I think she's an interesting character. But that goddamn sneaking line made her a no-deal on my last character (guns/lockpick/repair, but sneak and speech were my secondary skills).

edit: damn. grabbing that now. thanks, Suriko!
The sneaking comments are annoying, yes, but what I hate more is when I snipe a dude from 400 yards, and someone pipes up with "Put that back in your pants before you hurt someone." Or whatever the hell.
Veronica has started to make a dismissive "Huh." noise whenever I shoot someone in the head from a distance.
It happens a lot, because I'm going around slaughtering the inhabitants of every major population center I have thus far discovered with a gauss rifle.
Every once in a while I shoot her in the head to shut her up while I'm doing my business.
Yeah it's triggered by shooting anything at all while not in combat. I don't get why they thought that would make sense with the comments that they make.
Soooo I think I installed a mod that either took away the minimum damage on weapons or seriously jacked up DT values, because I just watched a Giant Scorpion demolish Mojave Outpost. None of my or the NPCs' weapons could even put a scratch on the thing. I had to reload, console up, and disable the thing just not fail several quests.
Was it that leakless DT mod that got posted on day 1? I know that can make Giant Radscorpions absolute nightmares to deal with inbetween the shittons of HP and the pissant damage NCR trooper weapons tend to do.
If not, welp, roll out the list of what'cha got running.
I suspect the problem lies with either Realistic Power Armor or Energy Weapons DeNerf. The funny thing is that after installing the later, energy weapons seem to have become even more impotent. I've been trying to do a science/energy weapons run and it takes an entire clip (cell?) of a laser pistol to do what the Varmint Rifle does in a single shot. Now that I think about it, I should have made a save during the scorpion attack to be able to easily test this out.
I ran with Veronica for most of my first game, so the flavor text actually seemed pretty natural. I just assumed she was annoyed with me because I was sniping everything from hundreds of yards away and she wasn't getting to punch anything. Then I went back to Boone and he started accusing me of having bad aim while I took heads off Legionnaires from a half mile away.

I think it's dialogue meant for shooting at nothing, which for some reason they think you're doing
GECK is the first thing that has made me want a trackball mouse, the amount of mouse movement while getting situated is obnoxious
So, I have done the following:
Got the platinum chip
Killed Benny
Met Caesar
Reinforced the Securitron army
Taken the chip to Mr House
Killed Mr House
Installed Yes-Man - Leading to the "NCR and Caesar will hate you if you don't cut this out" quests.
I have also dealt with the casinos, and with the boomers, and told Yes-Man that they're on our side.
My question is whether I can still be doing quests for NCR and then go back to the Wild Card path, or whether I should be contacting the other factions and getting them allied with me and Yes Man. I mean, I don't want to be allying somebody with NCR and then betray NCR. That just doesn't seem smart.
I'd also like to say that the writing in New Vegas is really, really good. Some of the best writing I've seen in a game. I remember playing Fallout 3 and wanting to facepalm at most of the dialogue in that game. All of the weird histrionic flavour has been purged and replaced with hilarious gritty goodness. Also, I really wish Black Mountain radio was available throughout the wasteland, as it's fantastic.
Radio Spoilers:
I heard somewhere that Mr. New Vegas is actually supposed to be <<DEAD CHARACTER MENTIONED ABOVE>>. Is there somewhere that is "discovered" in-game? I mean, he seems to have survived that character's untimely demise is all.
Also, voice acting is good in places but still not great. I am mainly talking about the lackluster swearing. I reckon that if a VA is not "feeling" a word like that in the script then they ought to leave it out.

It sounds ridiculous whenever I hear Cass swear. Of course, I think she's one of the weaker voices in the game, too.
So I started my 2nd run, trying to do evil, and it seems to me...there's just not really an evil way to do a runthrough of NV. You can pick Powder Gangers over Goodsprings, and Legion over NCR, but it seems like at least 80% of the quests in the game are simply helping people, without actually screwing anyone else over either. Like, you can help the BoS and do their quest lines, or you can...ignore them.
It mostly bothers me because I'm basically doing 80% of the stuff exactly the same way I did on my first run. I've bottomed out my karma but neighborhoods still all love me because there's not much else in the way of quests to do.
so... Vault 11 I just stumbled on... HOW ridiculous of a story. Link is very spoilery. But I think this might be my favorite social experiment of the game EVER.

Quests which I believe have an evil ending (evil in spoilers):
Helios
Use it to kill the NCR
The love-story with the Boomers
Tell the girl she's free to come-and-go at the boomer camp
Come fly with me
Use Chris, or reprogram the rockets to crash into each other

Yeah, I tried doing a Legion run but I just couldn't get into it. For most of the game you're practically tripping over NCR oriented or related quests that, even if you don't get direct NCR acceptance for doing the quest, you still feel like you're helping them out in some way. With the Legion, anything you do to help them at best gets you a "Yeah, thanks for killing those guys, now get lost you filthy profligate.".
so me and veronica jus went to the fort. It was like the begining of A New Hope, where the storm troopers burst in and massacre the rebels with laser fire. awesome. then I sat Caesar on his throne and cut him apart with a chainsaw.
I love this game
Okay. As if Jury Rigging wasn't enough, one of Hand Loader's recipes is a .308 JSP that does 1.5x Damage! That basically turns the sniper rifles into Anti-Material Rifles. Even moreso with the 5x crit multiplier they have!
Shit, I knew Hand Loader was a nice perk, but not such a goddamn gamechanger as 50% more damage for an already excellent class of weapons.
When I finished my first playthrough the save file had me marked as Evil Incarnate. Didn't side with the powder gangers or the legion.
Ate Ceasar and his little dogs too.
And yeah you cant really do anything super long-term destructive to the mojave but thats sortof the moral of the story. For everything you do good or bad, life just goes on and war... war never changes.

I got this game Thursday, finally had time to play it before dinner last night, and ended up staying up to 2 am.
I love this game. Moreso then it's predecessor, which I thought was so so.
A quick question - the different levels of difficulty in FNV don't have any effect on experience gain, but in turn, what is their difference towards player vs enemy and enemy vs player damage? In Oblivion it was something like on Hard/Very Hard the player does 1/6th dmg to enemies, while enemies did 6x more damage to the player.
Anyone know the specifics of this in FNV?

So I just finished shooting the shit out of the Van Graffs. That had to be one of the most satisfying shootouts I've ever had in an RPG (and one of the craziest by far as well). It was absolutely hilarious to be picking up weapons, plasma grenades and everything else I could find in the complete chaos. It was so worth it.

yes, I even got the one from the non-feral ghoul in the house.
finally, I said the same thing you did, and it was the first time I've used the console (spawned the bodies for searchin' although I suppose the easy way would've been to just add the tags to my inventory).
On the plus side, that area alone was responsible for most of the "take anti-rad drugs x times" mini-goal thing.

You're not kidding. The Quarry was a freaking cakewalk with it. I felt a little bad one-shotting the Deathclaw mother from a distance and watching her little babies zip around in confusion.

Tooling around in the GECK a second, it's either a mulltiplier of 10 or 2 at max difficulty based on the strings that pop up with a search of "difficulty" so based on what I've observed myself I'd say it's .5/.75/1/1.5/2 damage dealt to you, inverted for enemies.
I have a question for those familiar with the NV map. I'm looking to build a town-management mod, but I'm having some trouble finding a good spot for the town. The problem stems from World LOD: put simply, modifying the outdoor terrain is a tremendously difficult and buggy process that I'd rather not tackle. I can remove most rocks or other objects, just not raise/lower/flatten the ground or the distant versions of the textures poke through (turn off clipping with "tcl" in the console and float below the ground to see what I mean).
So what I need is a good spot, reasonably close to the start of the game (I'd settle for somewhere in the bottom half of the map), where I can build or commandeer about six buildings and a little surrounding area for town miscellany (walls, a well, a minefield, etc). I don't mind replacing buildings or rubble already there, but I'd rather not cut down anything particularly interesting (and I DEFINITELY don't want to intersect any quests).
I've considered co-opting the less interesting parts of Goodsprings, but that brings up a host of other issues. The easiest option is to make it an underground town, with large vault-like rooms for each "building," but I consider that a last resort; I'd like the player to feel like their town fits in the world proper.
I'm wandering the wastes searching on my own, but does anyone have any suggestions of a good place to check out?
