Book Display...Glass...Holder...Case...Thing?

Christmas is going to be pretty easy for me this year. I decided to self-publish a book of some of my stories for close family and friends, and I already gave a copy to my parents hoping they'd actually sit down and read it.

Of course once they got it, they refused to open it since they wanted to keep it in pristine condition...

So I've already settled with getting them a new copy, but I also wanted to get them something to better care for their first copy. My father has said he has looked with no luck a type of glass casing or easel with an outer covering to display the book in their living room.

I tried googling it and looking on amazon for some sort of glass casing that is similar to those cases people put model cars/planes and sports memorabilia (like signed footballs and baseballs). Naturally I turned up no results specifically tailored for encasing books, however.

The book is 6"x9", so my initial idea is to just get one of those football cases, but I'm not sure if it'll be big enough still.

So then I figured I'd ask the PA/HA Forum for some ideas/suggestions. Any ideas?

Try doing a search for a shadow box. I don't think they are specifically designed for books, but you could probably find something that would work.

Another option would be to find a local woodworker to make one custom for you. It's a pretty simple project and even an amateur with a basic set of tools could do a pretty decent job.

This is random, but I was recently looking for a plexi glass case for my Hot Wheels collection, and there are several dealers on Ebay who offer this sort of thing. Some of them had comments in their auctions saying that they do custom work, and to contact them if you were interested. As your book holder should be a pretty basic clear box with one hinged side, I'm sure one of them could help you out for a reasonable price.
