So there's some fire. And some ice. And a song or two. And kings, queens, lesbians, swordfights, giants, dwarves, incest, empires, dark gods, and kittens.
What is to be done with Dany? I would guess that this sort of thing has been discussed to death as one of the major looming problems, but I'm a bit new to the series after only plowing through them in the last few months. I know from that Dance preview chapter at the end of Feast that
with Drogon feasting on human children she's supposed to have to deal more and more with the fact that she's raising blood thirsty, infinitely destructive monsters to rain hell on Westeros, and reclaiming the throne isn't going to be quite the march to glory she'd been imagining all along.
How do you keep a character human and compelling if they're practically invincible and only growing in power with each book? I could tell something was up way back when she melted the slavers and freed the Unsullied, since it felt like literally the only point in the entire series when any pov character achieved some kind of unequivocal triumph.
Or is it about whether she rises to become the "true queen" Barristan the Bold want her to be, or she dominates and spreads chaos and fear in the same vein as some of her more ruthless ancestors? Some kind of luke skywalker inner battle to keep her soul despite the temptation of power and such?
The Red Wedding was only to increase his power, because he wanted it. An ancient dude, who is about to die, then cause a civil war among his descendants for his power, killed a whole ton of people including the only decent king in all of Westeros so he can have a few fleeting years of power.
Why the Targaryens are still assholes and so is Barristan
The madness thing isn't unique to Aerys the Mad. It's a generational thing and frankly this makes them the worst family to rule-Dany could be a good ruler, but thankfully the line is extinguished unless Jon is one. Barristan is also a huge dick for not telling Dany "Hey, your granddad? A psycho. He burnt people alive for kicks. That whole war that kicked you out? Happened because your granddad killed two nobles for rightfully demanding the return of their daughter/sister, who was betrothed to their friend, that your dad stole. Only then did their surviving relatives rebel, after trying to get their relative back peacefully. Your dad supported your crazy ass father, and I personally saw all this and let it happen 'cause, you know, honor." Wonder what he would've done if he knew Aerys had intended to kill everyone in the Landing. Probably still call Jaime an asshole.
Agreed and Agreed. Not sure anyone would defend Frey and even barring the possible twists related to the start of the Rebellion the Targayen's brought it down on themselves one way or a lot of ways. And I've said before all the knights hide behind/were blinded by their honor, even if they were stand up guys otherwise.
And Rhaegyr is her brother, not uncle. Dany is maybe an
The cannot have children thing only becomes a problem if they want the unbroken Targaeryn lineage.
Jon has a number of cousins / half brothers & sisters (depending on what his official birth status is and what his in universe recognized birth status is) that could take the throne to follow him.
Cersei is hot. I may have to root for her in the books now. How easily my alliance is bought.
That being said, with the pet dragons
There feasting on children actually makes them much more interesting. It also adds some humanity to the maesters and their plot to wipe out dragons as they may be powerful, but ultimately were people eating monsters.

Well, I thought that the maesters want to wipe out 'magic' generally, because it a) is powerful and therefore corrupting and b) generally seems to require blood sacrifice. The dragons are either the source of the renewed magic in the world, or the main symptom.
As for the dragons eating babies, well, wolves do that too. Heck, my cat would eat a baby if it could. That just shows that they're fundamentally wild animals who would eat another species' young. Mmm, I could go for some veal now.

Now that that caption mentions it, there are some coincidental similarities between Jaime and Vader.
Bratty blonde kids, hands get cut off, killed their master(s), family that likes incest, try to kill children... disturbing romance scenes... spent time with a short guy a lot smarter than them... now I'm just reaching...
I want to note, for the record, that when I was reading these books in middle school I had the following exchange with my Mom:
MrMister: Mom, what's a "cunt?"
MsMom: ... where did you here that?
MrMister: It says "she guards her cunt like it was worth all the king's gold."
Hoo boy. Thanks for that George RR.
No seriously, what is "Comity"?
Also, I swear there's an amusing homosexual observation in there, like "It is clear you had no interest in vaginas, even from a young age."

According to wiki, "In law, comity specifically refers to legal reciprocity—the principle that one jurisdiction will extend certain courtesies to other nations (or other jurisdictions within the same nation), particularly by recognizing the validity and effect of their executive, legislative, and judicial acts."
It was Maekar I's line that was first shown to be corrupt, I believe. Baelor's line was supposed to be pretty solid and decent rulers, except for the being dead. I've always wondered if somehow characters in the novels might turn out to be descended from the better line.

Oh man, that's as bad as the time I asked my parents what the word "fellatio" meant.
Only to end up giving his empire to the bastard of Bolton. Because that guy is also awesome.
Obvious problem with the Jon/Dany stuff that I'm sure everyone has dealt with:
Most obvious solution to that seems to be some Lord of Light fufferal.
Anyone want to beta read a paranormal mystery novella? Here's your chance.

Blackfish is pretty fucking awesome.
He's one of the very few legitimately good guys.
edit: I doubt that's him, though. He's supposed to have grey hair.
In many trousers.
Until she opens her mouth.

I can't find the post now, but I feel sure they've changed it so that the Blackfish doesn't show up in the Aerie.
Ah-ha!
