Fuck Sheriff Joe: Secret Misappropriation Of Funds Database Edition

AngelHedgieAngelHedgie Registered User regular
edited November 2010 in Debate and/or Discourse
A racial discrimination complaint turns up a secret database detailing how Everyone's Favorite Sheriff (TM) misappropriated $80M of funds.

Seriously, is anyone at the least bit surprised at this point? Anyone? I post this shit so I don't just cry.

I want to hang him and be done with it. Where's my cowboy justice when I want it?

Hell, where's my gun-toting Tea Partiers who talk about overthrowing the tyranny of corrupt government? Arpaio not Kenyan enough for you?

    Stupid Phoenix.

I wish I could say I was surprised.

I doubt anything will come of it, but maybe this is enough for him to lose his job?

Or is that crazy, considering what state he is in.

It's cool, he just will refuse records and the DoJ will continue to sit on their ass.

Maybe he used that 80M for bribes!

It'd be easier to make them think that for $80m he should've caught all the illegals, so he must've actually been spending it on trips to Vegas with gay hookers.

Seriously though, how does this guy even get $80m to misappropriate in the first place?

According to the article, it appears that was supposed to go towards bolstering the conditions of the detention facilities.

Which makes the misappropriation extra hilarious, given the whole "Tent city" horrific-abuses-of-rights jail thing.

Yeah, I don't see anything happening to him. The people who support Arpaio are pretty much going to think: why should I care about criminals in jail or whether or not they got 80 million dollars worth of coddling? It's better to spend the money fighting crime.

I mean, that's pretty much how they excuse away all the horrific shit he does already. "But he fights crime!"

Why should this change anything? Hardly the first time he's broken or abused the law.

Hilarious. Honestly, who in their right mind would give Boss Hog money to bolster detention facilities? I'm surprised he didn't put in a moat with sharks with friggin LASER beams attached to their heads.

The Tea Party's support for this guy really underscores how completely separate from reality their worldview is.

Sheriff Joe is the poster boy for big government overreach and the fascist-style denial of civil rights.

But it's ok because it's only against arbitrarily determined others and not people the Tea Party identifies with.

He's also state-level, and the Tea Party's idea seems to be that FEDERAL overreach and rights infringement = bad. But if a state does it, it's all cool. State's Rights to violate human rights!

But honestly, my favorite part of it all was "oh? these books? They're because our accounting software wasn't compatible with the rest of the state!" When you try to bill something and it says you can't use the money for that? That's not a software problem. :P

The saddest thing is that if we just took away the refugee status and access to entitlements that illegalles get, a lot of this shit wouldn't be necessary, but people like Sheriff Joe depend on lawlessness in order to stay in power, so no real changes will occur.

That said, those fucking revisionist Reconquista assholes deserve to die in the most painful of ways. I do not tolerate that shit.

    No.

The problem with Sheriff Joe is that most people just don't know the crap he pulls. The local media adores him and white washes away the stuff he does. He does a very good job of, on the surface, appearing harmless and even helpful.

Most people who support him think all he does is make prisoners wear pink underwear, live in tents, and help deal with illegal immigration.

That's what I thought was all he did when I supported him. Then I learned of the prisoner abuse, cronyism, and tax money theft.

I may be a dirty northerner but the population is about 30% hispanic around here

Probably why immigration reform is actually a local hot button. In Wisconsin. When most of the local hispanics are third generation from laborers brought in to chop wood in the 30s and certainly not illegal immigrants.
